JOB TITLE: Medical AssistantÂ
The following statements reflect the general duties, responsibilities and competencies considered necessary to perform the essential functions of the job and should not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements of this position.Â
RESPONSIBILITIES: Â
- Assists with the preparation of patients prior to seeing practitionersÂ
- Assists the practitioners with patient care in the conduct of clinical examinations and materials preparation; i.e. dressing changes, Pap Smear, etc.Â
- Acts as a translator for patients as neededÂ
- Responsible for taking vital signs, administering tuberculin tests, and performing procedures for specimen collection, routine eye screening, hearing tests, hematocrit, urinalysis, and urine cultureÂ
- Performs EKG and simple laboratory proceduresÂ
- Distributes lab reports to practitioners for reviewÂ
- Provides patient counseling regarding procedures (Ex. lab tests)Â
- Assist in the maintenance of inventories and stocking of supplies in examination rooms, nursing and lab areasÂ
- Maintains logs of required data as neededÂ
- Acts as the patient’s advocate and liaison for the preservation of patient's rightsÂ
- Participates in off-site screening projects as neededÂ
- Participates in departmental QA and other patient-related committees as neededÂ
- Participates in outreach and community screenings as neededÂ
- Participates in case management and patient surveys in maintaining quality assuranceÂ
- Other related duties as assigned Â
QUALIFICATIONS: Â
- High School Diploma or equivalent requiredÂ
- Medical Assistant Certification requiredÂ
- Basic CPR (BCLS) CertificationÂ
- Two years of experience working in the health care fieldÂ
- Capacity for covering Medical Assistants at all sites as neededÂ
- Bilingual in English and Spanish/Creole requiredÂ
- This is Monday through Friday. Shifts are from 8 AM to 4 PM, with one evening shift from 12 PM to 8 PM and one rotating Saturday each month
SALARY:Â $23.00-$25.00 an hour
