Fire Protection Service & Install Technician

Position Summary

The Fire Protection Service & Install Technician is responsible for installing, inspecting, testing, maintaining, and repairing a variety of fire protection and life safety systems. This includes fire sprinklers, fire alarms, special hazard systems, and suppression systems. The technician ensures all work is performed in compliance with NFPA standards, local codes, and manufacturer specifications while delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining the highest safety standards.
 

Key Responsibilities

Installation

  • Install fire protection systems including sprinklers, alarms, suppression systems, and related equipment according to project specifications, NFPA standards, and local codes.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and wiring diagrams to guide installations.
  • Route and secure piping, conduit, wiring, and devices.
  • Program and configure systems to meet design requirements.
 

Service & Maintenance

  • Perform scheduled inspections and testing of fire protection systems in accordance with NFPA standards (e.g., NFPA 13, NFPA 25, NFPA 72).
  • Identify system deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Troubleshoot and repair faulty components including valves, devices, control panels, and piping.
 

Testing & Commissioning

  • Conduct functional and acceptance tests on new installations.
  • Document results and ensure systems are fully operational prior to turnover.
  • Coordinate with the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for inspections and approvals.
 

Customer Service

  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding inspection findings, installation progress, and repair needs.
  • Provide system operation training for end users when required.
  • Deliver professional service that builds and maintains strong customer relationships.
 

Compliance & Documentation

  • Complete accurate service tickets, inspection reports, and installation logs.
  • Maintain documentation for deficiencies, repairs, and upgrades.
  • Follow company, OSHA, and industry safety standards at all times.
 
 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in fire protection systems preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of fire protection system installation and/or service experience.
 

Certifications

  • NICET Level II or higher in one or more disciplines (Fire Alarm Systems, Water-Based Systems Layout, Special Hazards) preferred.
  • State or local licenses as required.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification desirable.
 

Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge of NFPA codes and standards including NFPA 13, 25, and 72.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
  • Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.
 
 

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, work at heights, and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Work in environments including active construction sites, industrial facilities, and occupied buildings.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites, work overtime, and participate in on-call rotations.
