This position may also serve as the Chief Building Official’s representative in their absence. In this role, you will supervise Inspectors across multiple trade disciplines including building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing. You’ll provide technical expertise, ensuring inspections are completed accurately and in compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and ordinances. In addition, you will conduct plan reviews, coordinate those reviews with internal departments and outside agencies, perform inspections of new and existing structures, assist builders in resolving identified issues, and maintain required inspection records and reports. This posting may close early without further notice.  Anticipated Work Schedule: This position is eligible to work remotely two days a week and required to work in-office three days a week.   Work Location: Town Hall, 645 Holbrook, Erie, CO 8051 Pay Range: Full Salary Range: $90,122/year - $126,170/year Anticipated Hiring Range: $90,122/year - $108,149/year Hiring rates are dependent upon experience.   To review the full job description, environmental and physical factors please review job here.   Duties and Responsibilities:  Supervisory Duties:  Provide day-to-day leadership for Inspectors who perform technical trade inspections in the areas of construction, electrical, plumbing, and/or mechanical and recommends process improvements and changes in practices and procedures to increase operating efficiency and expedite workflow. Plan, assign, and evaluate the work of inspectors, provides technical expertise to staff, and establishes unit and staff work goals and objectives. Review, develop, or modify work plans, methods, and procedures, determines work priorities and develops work schedules to provide adequate staff coverage. Provides work instruction and assists employees with difficult and/or unusual assignments; encourages innovation. Assigns and distributes work, reviews work for accuracy and completeness and returns assignments with recommendations for proper completion. Lead strong customer service expectations: handling escalations, interdepartmental coordination, and contractor/developer relations. Ensure quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of unit activities and safety measures. Provide coaching, training, development and guidance to direct reports while also conducting regular performance review evaluations to assess individual performance and development. Assist staff in resolving individual and work problems; recommends personnel actions. Documents cause for disciplinary action and initiates letters of reprimand and makes formal recommendations for disciplinary action. Responds to formal and informal employee grievances and prepares written responses. Conduct hiring interviews and selects candidate(s) for job opening(s). Participate in planning and managing budget systems; prepares and presents budget recommendations to Building Official; operates within budget parameters; adjusts work plans/activities because of budget changes. Inspection Duties:  Consult with architects, engineers, contractors, departmental supervisors, and others to provide building code interpretation and coordinates projects with other Town agencies and/or State and federal agencies. Keep informed of new technical developments and trade practices and recommends improved inspection methods and amendments to existing code regulations. Implement safety standards and develops procedures to ensure compliance. Assist with the development and implementation of policies, procedures, goals, and objectives of the division. Attend meetings of professional organizations, serves on code committees and panels, originates amendments to code, and recommends adoption of standards. Maintain a knowledge of latest developments in the construction industry. Perform a variety of technical duties in support of the division’s services and activities. Inspect commercial and residential structures as needed during and after construction to ensure compliance to approved construction documents and building code. Identifies building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing code deficiencies and provides correction notices to contractors, builders, and homeowners.  Perform contemporaneous reviews of job site electrical and plumbing contractors as needed for compliance to State contractor licensing requirements. Perform related work as required or assigned.    Qualifications  Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in Engineering, Architecture, Business, or a related field. Minimum of five years of permitting, plan review, inspection, building department operations, or similar construction trades experience. Minimum of two years of supervisory or team lead experience. Certified in both ICC Residential or Commercial Plans Examiner or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire. A combination of education and experience may be considered.   Desired Qualifications: Demonstrate high level of competence and familiarity with the Towns permitting software.
