JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Student Disability Resources (SDR) is looking for a part-time Educational Assistant for a student who has a mobility impairment taking courses during the Spring 2026 Semester. The individual hired for this role will assist the student with classroom-based writing and materials organization to ensure access to lecture and classroom information and assist the student during exams. In addition, they may also assist with completing homework assignments and assessments outside of class. Primary duties include:

Scribe

  • Act as a scribe for the student. Handwrite or type the content according to the student’s exact instructions.

Reader

  • Read course-related content aloud as needed by the student.
  • Read assessments aloud as needed by the student and directed by SDR.

Materials Organization

  • Finding and organizing in-class materials (e.g., text. PowerPoint slides, problem sets. graphics) for synchronous use with the instructor and class.
  • Assisting the student before or after class in meeting with the instructor to get clarification of material and information, as needed.

Other

  • Other tasks as assigned by SDR.

Requirements:

  • Time commitment:
    • Attend scheduled class sessions in-person, on the Penn State Behrend Campus.
    • Able to schedule time outside of class to work on course assignments.
    • Able to work an estimated 10 to 20 per week.
  • Previous experience working with individuals who have disabilities is preferred but not required.

Additional Notes

  • Job-related training will be provided.
  • The individual hired for this role is not responsible for individually teaching course material.
