Community OutreachPosition Summary
The Outreach Manager/Academic Advisor supports students pursuing careers in nursing by providing comprehensive academic and career guidance. The advisor assists students with educational planning, program readiness, and progression, while addressing factors that impact student success. This position involves collaboration with Nursing and Health Sciences faculty and leadership in the recruitment of potential nursing students.The Department of Nursing & Health Sciences offers a nursing career pathway including Nurse Aide, Licensed Practical Nurse, Associate Degree Nursing , and a baccalaureate degree nursing program (RN to BSN).
Duties & Responsibilities
- Advise prospective students on nursing program requirements, prerequisites, and career pathways.
- Provide guidance on application processes, timelines, and program progression.
- Support students in developing individualized academic plans.
- Connect students with tutoring, financial aid, wellness, and support services as needed.
- Collaborate with faculty and student support services to improve student retention and success.
- Provide career counseling and mentoring to students and potential students.
- Monitor student academic progress and coordinate follow-up meetings with students as necessary.
- Collaborate with department faculty as needed.
- Assist with student recruitment and related activities.
- Perform middle and high school outreach.
- Participate in advisement and financial aid training.
- Participate in New Student Orientation programs.
- Evaluate and maintain student records for degree requirements using the academic evaluation system.
- Audit student records for curriculum, major, graduation requirements.
- Disseminate information on college policies and procedures to faculty, parents, and students.
- Assist with proctoring and administration of nursing entrance exam.
- Participate in nursing program selection process.
- Contributes to the overall success of the department by performing all other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Experience working with diverse student populations, exceptional attention to detail, and a desire to help others succeed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Effective innovative strategies to support student success.
- Experience in student advisement and/or mentoring, working with low-income students in rural communities, and preparing and delivering presentations to high school and college students.
- Familiarity of nursing education pathways.
- Experience with Ellucian Banner Student Administrative Software and Degree Works.

- Ability to effectively communicate college policy to students.

- Excellent presentation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

- Ability to maintain calendars and schedule appointments.

- Ability to analyze and solve problems.
- Ability to analyze course prerequisites, certification, and/or curriculum/graduation requirements.
- Ability to evaluate student transcripts and/or records.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- No or very limited physical effort required; up to 25 pounds

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
