Position Overview:

Under the direction and supervision of the Pharmacist or Nurse Director, the Pharmacy Assistant maintains clinic drug room in compliance with NM State Board of Pharmacy regulations. The Pharmacy Assistant has access to personal data regarding individual patients and/or their families; an essential job result is the maintenance of a high level of confidentiality of the information processed by the employee.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Ensure quality patient care by acknowledging, adhering to, and implementing overall organizational and pharmacy policies of El Centro Family Health.
  • Provide a high level of customer service to patients and staff of El Centro Family Health.
  • Order clinic drug supplies from wholesalers.
  • Prepare medication for dispensing from clinic drug room.
  • Serve as pharmacy resource support for satellite clinics staff.
  • Direct medication refill requests electronically for provider authorization.
  • Assist provider with medication prior authorizations.
  • Manage Sublocade/Vivitrol patient inventory
  • Manage naloxone (Narcan) inventory
  • Manage Vaccine for Children stock
  • Maintain orderliness/cleanliness of drug room
  • Perform annual drug inventory
  • Remove expired medication from stock and processes returns.
  • Manage and maintain Patient Assistant Program Services.
  • When appropriately trained, assists clinical pharmacist as Medical Assistant.
  • Assists Pharmacist with other projects as requested.
  • Contributes to team effort by assisting other departments when requested by supervisor.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years in pharmacy or medical setting.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or ability to obtain certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge/expertise with PC hardware and software (Word and Excel).
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician.
  • Bilingual- Spanish/English.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to balance, bend, lift, carry, and pull up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods, typically longer than four hours.
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, or as needed.
  • Manual dexterity and ability to use hands and fingers for feeling, grasping, and operating office equipment.
  • Adequate hearing ability for communication and monitoring office environments.
  • Good vision for reading documents, operating office equipment, and observing surroundings.
  • Capability to stoop, crouch, crawl, or kneel as necessary for office tasks.
  • Ability to talk clearly and effectively for communication.
  • Ability to walk and move around the office environment.
  • This position involves possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials.
