Position Summary
The Data Scientist & Technology Specialist is a connector – managing the internal tools, platforms, and technologies that support team collaboration, data sharing, and organizational efficiency.
This position supports Visit Estes Park’s data intelligence, digital systems, marketing and stewardship performance measurement, and organizational reporting through data collection, analysis, visualization, and research. This role ensures high data accuracy, consistent reporting, and timely insights that inform decisions across marketing, brand and destination stewardship, visitor services, community engagement, and destination management.

This role also sits at the intersection of data, digital systems, and innovation, ensuring VEP is supported by the right technology and data systems and platforms and that technology investments deliver measurable value.
Working under the direction of the VP of Visitor Experience and in collaboration with other team members, the Data Scientist & Technology Specialist transforms raw data into clear summaries, dashboards, and reports and manages the technology to be able to do this.
Key Responsibilities
Market & Visitor Research
- Conduct and/or gather and maintain research on visitor trends, traveler behavior, economic indicators, and competitive destination comparisons.
- Assist in the design, distribution, and analysis of visitor surveys, partner and stakeholder surveys, resident sentiment tracking, and brand studies.
- Monitor and share industry reports from local, state, regional, and national tourism agencies.
Marketing & Experience Performance Analysis
- Assist VEP’s Digital Storyteller with tracking KPIs for digital campaigns, SEO/SEM, paid media performance, social engagement, and website behavior.
- Support travel experience-design campaigns by analyzing visitor patterns, feedback, and operational data.
- Maintain historical data archives to support long-term insights and year-over-year comparisons.
Collection, Management & Quality
- Develop a comprehensive digital strategy that modernizes VEP’s technology stack, supports organization-wide innovation, and enhances visitor and partner experiences.
- Collect, manage, and validate data from multiple sources including lodging metrics, mobility data, website analytics, social platforms, surveys, events, and CRM systems.
- Ensure VEP remains at the forefront of digital trends, cybersecurity practices, emerging platforms, and destination-technology solutions.
- Support data accuracy and consistency across dashboards and internal systems.
- Assist with data governance recommendations, including documentation and version control processes.
Reporting & Dashboard Development
- Build and maintain dashboards, easy-to-understand presentations and/or summaries for internal teams, CEO, Board Directors, and stakeholder reporting.
- Produce regular (i.e., weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual) reports summarizing visitation trends, marketing performance, economic returns, digital metrics, and individual campaign outcomes.
- Support development of board reports, community presentations, and partner and stakeholder updates with accurate data, trends, and projections.
- Respond to data requests from internal teams, board members, business and community partners, and public-sector collaborators.

Information Technology Leadership
- Manage IT systems and infrastructure including hardware, software, cybersecurity, user access, and internal tech support.
- Develop IT standards, policies, and processes that ensure security, reliability, and organizational efficiency.
- Oversee vendor selection, system integrations, licensing, and digital compliance requirements.
- Contribute to transparency and trust by maintaining reliable technology, systems, well-structured data outputs.

Qualifications
  Required
- Bachelor’s degree in data analytics, business, economics, statistics, information technology, business, geography, or related field.
- 2 - 4+ years of experience in data analysis, research, analytics, economics, business and/or information technology management or related roles.
- Proficiency with data visualization tools and basic SQL or data-query skills.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience conducting survey research and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data.
- Experience managing digital platforms, CRMs, or integrated technology systems.
- Understanding of ROI and basic statistical and economic analysis concepts.
- Strong project management skills and comfortable taking initiative while working independently.
  Preferred
- Experience working in the travel and tourism industry, tourism economics, hospitality, transportation, or public-sector.
- Familiarity with Google Analytics, CRM platforms, social analytics tools, and geo-location, and mobility dashboards.
- Experience with visitor, location-based data, or economic impact platforms (e.g., Placer.ai, Arrivalist, Tourism Economics, geofencing tools, etc.).
- Knowledge of or experience with destination marketing and management organizations or state-level tourism and/or recreation departments.
- Ability to interpret patterns, trends, and performance indicators and ensure data accuracy and consistency across reports.
- Experience collaborating with internal teams, vendors, contracts, and technology implementations across departments.
- Comfort translating technical concepts for non-technical audiences.

- Salary range: $75K-$95K annually, based on full-time status, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Work Environment
The Data Scientist & Technology Specialist works primarily in an office and professional meeting environment, with a combination of in-person, hybrid, or remote work arrangements as approved by the Chief Executive Officer. Standard work hours generally occur during regular business hours; however, the position requires flexibility to travel and attend meetings, community events, public forums, and partner engagements, which may include evenings, early mornings, weekends, and occasional holidays.
The role requires frequent interaction with internal staff, public agencies, elected officials, community stakeholders, and external partners. Work may involve travel within the Estes Park region and surrounding areas, with occasional travel. The position may require walking, standing, sitting, driving, and the use of standard office equipment. Occasional exposure to outdoor environments and variable weather conditions may occur when attending in-market meetings or destination-related special events and activities.
