Purpose
Operate assigned cut-off lines to produce core wire used in the manufacture of manual electrodes while ensuring safety, quality, and productivity standards are met.
Job Description (Duties and Responsibilities)
- Operates mild steel, high-carbon steel, and stainless-steel draw benches and roll-cut machines to draw down coiled steel rod, straighten wire, and cut it to specified lengths.
- Produces core wire meeting quality and production requirements.
- Inspects a sample of core wire from each tote box to verify conformance to physical and quality specifications.
- Fills tote boxes with cut wire and identifies each tote using the required color-code tag that corresponds to the source rod.
- Accurately records operator code, line number, and Team Lead code in ink on each color-code tag.
- Completes line changeovers in accordance with established procedures.
- Identifies, isolates, and follows procedures for wire that does not meet specification requirements.
- Reviews, understands, and complies with all applicable departmental procedures, work instructions, specifications, plant rules, and job hazard analyses related to the role.
- Operates equipment only when guards are in place and functioning properly and follows all environmental, health, and safety requirements.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of the work area and reports safety hazards, equipment concerns, or EHS questions to the supervision.
- Uses required personal protective equipment in accordance with Plant Rules and Regulations.
- Works collaboratively as part of the production team and supports efficient department operations.
- Assumes additional responsibilities as needed or directed by supervision.
Basic Requirements
- High school Diploma or equivalent.
- Manufacturing or industrial equipment operation experience preferred
- Ability to operate cut-off lines, draw benches, roll-cut machines, butt welders, wire pointers, and related department equipment (training provided).
- Ability to use measuring devices such as flat micrometers (0–1").
- Ability to read, write, and perform general math to complete required records.
- Ability to understand and interpret manufacturing procedures, specifications, and work instructions.
- Mechanical aptitude with strong attention to safety and quality.
- Visual ability to distinguish color codes
