ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Fuse or mechanically splice SM or MM fibers in multiple environments including aerial and underground. Terminate fiber using a variety of connection methods. 
  • Assess current plant infrastructure and determine best methods for construction. 
  • Place main fiber cables into splice case and terminate fibers. 
  • Perform testing utilizing OTDRs and other testing equipment. 
  • Work with Engineering and OSP Leadership to perform splicing as directed. 
  • Provide accurate and detailed reports of splicing activity in a timely manner. 
  • Able to perform installations in residences and businesses following DFN and industry standards and guidelines. 
  • Willing and able to be on an on-call rotation for emergencies, teardowns, and scheduled maintenances. Able to run outages as a point man in the field directing the work of others as needed. 
  • Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic. This is a high productivity position with minimal supervision. 
  • Safely operate a company vehicle including a bucket truck. 
  • Maintain knowledge of various cables and supplies.   
  • Maintain safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations.

    Other projects will be assigned as needed.
     


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working as a fiber splicer or broadband technician or equivalent for a minimum of two years. 
  • Able to meet physical demands with reasonable accommodation if necessary. This position is considered moderately physical work and will be required to lift, push or pull up to 100 pounds intermittently, 50 pounds occasionally, and 10 pounds frequently. This position also requires fine finger manipulation and 20/20 vision to work with fine fibers.  
  • Possess advanced knowledge related to installation and repairs. Ability to be responsible for major outage repairs.  
  • Clean driving record free from major moving violations within the last three years and a valid driver’s license.  
  • Ability to read engineering and construction documentation. 
  • Knowledge of aerial and underground construction concepts. 
  • Live within 30 minutes of existing serviceable territory. 
  • Have NESC standards for clearance memorized. 
  • Ability to learn new software and applications specific to the industry and position, most often using a cell phone to document while on the job.  
  • Professional appearance and customer service oriented.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement, courtesy, patience and tact in public contact and problem resolution. 
  • Willing to work after business hours as needed and in urgent situations
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
