This is a hands-on, fast-paced manufacturing role that rotates through multiple positions on the SCP line. Operators are expected to learn and perform all aspects of the line, including panel layup, Face and Back stations, press operation, putty, trim, quality inspection, production reporting, and forklift relief. This position requires strong attention to detail, good computer skills, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to maintain production pace without sacrificing safety or quality. Previous manufacturing experience is preferred. Forklift experience and strong computer skills are highly valued, and bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus. What You’ll Do As an SCP Operator, you will: Rotate through and learn all operating positions on the Short Cycle Press line. Read and follow production schedules, layup lists, load tickets, SOPs, POSs, and customer requirements. Confirm materials and products being run meet specifications before and during production. Work efficiently to maintain established production rates, including a target pace of up to four panels per minute in applicable positions. Operate Face and Back stations and correctly orient veneer during layup. Operate, load, and unload the press. Set and monitor press pressure, heat, and cycle times according to established specifications. Operate the trim section of the line. Perform putty operations and follow established putty color and production requirements. Measure glue spread and make appropriate adjustments based on product requirements. Inspect loads and panels for defects and immediately communicate quality concerns. Perform required quality checks throughout production. Understand how quality issues at SCP can affect downstream production processes. Match wood species and grades to load tickets and production requirements. Print production and inventory tags and accurately tag and separate completed loads. Complete inventory, labor, and production transactions in Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D-365). Accurately record required process and quality information. Use a micrometer and other measuring equipment as required. Safely operate a forklift for break relief and other assigned duties. Inspect, clean, and maintain press plates and other equipment. Perform routine cleaning and basic troubleshooting of SCP equipment. Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and other established safety requirements. Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the shift. Participate in TWI training, JSAs, 5S, Kaizen, Safety, Quality, and other continuous improvement activities. Work closely with leads, forklift drivers, and other team members to achieve safety, quality, and production goals. Learn additional jobs throughout the SCP area and step in wherever needed to support the team.   QualificationsWhat We’re Looking For This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys a fast-moving production environment, learning different equipment and processes, and taking ownership of both quality and output. Successful candidates will bring: Previous manufacturing or production experience preferred. Strong computer skills and comfort learning manufacturing software and production systems. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365, MRP, ERP, or similar manufacturing systems is a plus. Previous forklift experience strongly preferred. Ability to obtain and maintain required forklift certification. Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus. Mechanical aptitude and an interest in learning how equipment operates. Experience operating production machinery or presses is a plus. Experience working with veneer, plywood, lumber, or other wood products is a plus. Strong hand-eye coordination and the ability to handle veneer quickly and carefully. Ability to use a micrometer and other measuring tools. Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality. Ability to read and follow production schedules, work instructions, load tickets, and specifications. Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Good communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work independently while also coordinating closely with others. Ability to maintain production pace in a fast-moving environment. Willingness and ability to learn and rotate through all SCP positions. Ability to complete required TWI certification and training. Safety & Quality Safety and quality are critical parts of this position. SCP Operators are expected to: Follow all safety rules, procedures, and equipment requirements. Properly follow Lockout/Tagout procedures whenever required. Identify and communicate unsafe conditions immediately. Inspect materials and finished panels for quality defects. Stop and communicate when something does not meet established requirements. Understand how decisions made at SCP can impact quality and production throughout the rest of the mill. Support the team in achieving safety, production, and quality goals. Physical Requirements This is an active manufacturing position. Employees in this role must be able to: Stand and walk for most of the shift. Frequently use hands and arms to handle veneer, panels, tools, and equipment. Perform repetitive hand and arm movements at production pace. Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, and reach as required. Safely lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Work around moving machinery and powered industrial equipment. Work Environment This position works in an active plywood manufacturing environment and may include: High noise levels. Wood dust and other manufacturing-related conditions. Moving machinery and production equipment. Forklift and pedestrian traffic. Heat associated with press and manufacturing operations. Required personal protective equipment must be worn as designated and includes safety glasses and hearing protection. You learn the different positions, understand how the process works, recognize when something isn't right, and communicate problems before they become bigger issues.
