Role Overview
CNC Milling, Turning & Multi-Axis Programmer using Mastercam responsible for creating, optimizing, and verifying CNC programs for milling, lathe, and mill-turn machines producing aerospace, defense, and precision manufactured components.
Key Responsibilities
- CNC Programming: Develop and optimize CNC programs in Mastercam for milling (3-axis, 4-axis, and true 5-axis), lathe, and mill-turn operations.
- Simulation & Verification: Use Mastercam and simulation tools (e.g., CIMCO Simulation) to verify programs before machine run.
- Production Support: Load, verify, and support machine-side prove-out of programs; assist with setup and changeover, as necessary.
- Process Development: Improve cycle times, machining efficiency, and manufacturability; participate in fixture design, tooling selection, and tool vendor evaluation.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, apply GD&T, and manage multi-datum tolerances.
- Collaboration: Work with planning, quality, engineering, purchasing, and production teams to meet shop goals and optimize processes.
- Documentation: Generate setup and technical documentation from programs for shop use.
- Machine Maintenance: Support CNC machine setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance, as necessary.
- Â
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Software: Proficiency in Mastercam (milling & turning).
- Machines & Controls: Experience with CNC mills (3–5+ axis), lathes (2–5+ axis), and controls FANUC, Haas, Mazak, Makino.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of GD&T, DFM, G-code/M-code, CNC tooling, and machine geometry.
- Materials: Experience machining metals such as aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, Inconel, plastics, composites used in aerospace.
- Standards: Familiarity with aerospace/defense quality standards (e.g., DPD, AS9100).
Â
Preferred Experience
- 5+ years hands-on CNC programming and machining.
- 3+2 Indexing and true 5-axis simultaneous motion programming.
- Aerospace or defense manufacturing background.
- Ability to mentor junior machinists and lead process improvement initiatives.
In summary, this role blends CAM software mastery with CNC machine operation, requiring both technical precision and process optimization skills to deliver high-quality parts in complex manufacturing environments.
