The Materials Control Specialist is responsible for applying existing knowledge and experience in the Material Management Discipline to oversee materials control in a fabrication shop. They will utilize best practices and knowledge of internal or external issues to enhance products or services within the Material Management Discipline. 

The Materials Control Specialist applies their conceptual knowledge of Material Management and, with moderate guidance and direction from colleagues and leadership, is responsible for ensuring material control/traceability throughout the fabrication process including receiving, fabrication and shipping out to projects.

Reports directly to the Area Welding & QA Manager and regularly interfaces with Project Managers, Fabrication Manager, Corporate and Area Functional Leads, in addition to Project / Fabrication Shop Quality Managers.


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for understanding the organization’s management system and project requirements related to material control and assuring compliance.
  • Prepares and maintains project deliverables related to materials control, based on the organization’s management system and project requirements.
  • Perform receiving inspections and verifying all materials meet the requirements of the purchase order. This includes verifying quantity, size, thickness, and conformance to all applicable specifications.
  • Maintain all material records. This includes, but is not limited to, generating and completing and receiving inspection reports, traceability logs / reports, review and acceptance of mill test reports (MTRs) and certificates of compliance (COCs).
  • Ensure material restrictions (I.e., Buy American requirements) are communicated and adhered to.
  • Assist with preparing shipments to project sites.
  • Maintains project records related to materials control, as per the organization’s records management system.
  • Manages non-conformances and corrective actions related to materials control, including root cause analysis, as applicable.
  • Prepares and submits daily, weekly, monthly materials control reports to Operations and Functional management in accordance with on the organization’s management system and project requirements.
  • Advise Project Team on all materials control issues.
  • Contributes to a positive Shop Safety Culture.
  • Communicate effectively with Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication and Material Management Team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials (or a relevant discipline) or HSD / GED / IGCSE with three (3) years of relevant experience.
  • Three (3) years of experience working in a shop environment in materials control.
  • Functional knowledge of Material Requirement Planning Systems such as Oracle Agile PLM and/or Oracle JD Edwards.
  • Ability to generate Excel spreadsheets, graphs, and pivot tables with supporting analysis.

  • Act as focal point for all Materials Control matters in the shop.
  • Understands project requirements and ensures compliance Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Compiles project records and handover to the projects for final documentation.

  • Utilizes communication skills appropriate to the environment, resulting in effective interactions with various departments.
