Position Overview
The Shipper (Level 3) is responsible for shipping products using LTL and contracted carriers and for maintaining appropriate inventory levels. This position is required to coordinate with sales, purchasing, and manufacturing to ensure the timely shipping of goods. You may be required to assist other employees as a helper on key work or machines as required by the work schedule.
Duties and Responsibilities
Team Support and CommunicationÂ
- This individual should be trained and engage in and daily activities on Visual Management tool(s) available to support the assignment and proper distribution of “ready to ship” orders to the team, priorities, holds, etcÂ
- Adequately understand and action the priorities of the day as a primary connection between the office and floor team, working to execute the strategic plan with the floor team as set forth by the Lead/SupervisorÂ
- Able to communicate/collaborate with others within the department and provide guidance in various SOPsÂ
- Alongside dept Lead/Supervisor, be able to understand and implement strategy for all standards as well as navigate “non-standard” work within defined parameters of dutiesÂ
- Willingness and ability to take initiative within the department and instruct and guide others when given opportunityÂ
Evaluating Packaging Quality StandardsÂ
- Well versed in packaging standards (Parcel, Combo, LTL, FTL)Â Â
- Analysis of packaging changes needed or adjustments in instances that might require special needs for shipment of custom unitsÂ
- Alongside dept Lead/Supervisor, be able to communicate and implement strategy for all standards as well as navigate “non-standard” work within defined parameters of dutiesÂ
Trained at Parcel Desk, Combo Station, and Freight Packaging Â
- Utilizing on-the-job knowledge throughout the department to assist where needed in development of personnel, processes and standard workÂ
- Stay well informed in the process adjustments given by either Lead, Supervisor or Manager and be able to adequately communicate to othersÂ
- Communicate and contribute ideas for process improvements or training needs to Lead/SupervisorÂ
Floater/Team BackfillÂ
- Become well versed in all shipping dept floor roles. Utilize on-the-job skills and duty flexibility throughout the department to aid and backfill roles when necessary to support the daily needs of the team and department, as noted by either Supervisor or Manager.Â
Requirements
Competencies
- Ability to read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material/equipment needs; quality control; and safety.
- Effective verbal, written, and mathematical skills are required.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
- Must have strong general mechanical skills.
- Must be familiar and comfortable with various hand tools and machinery.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift, pull, or push up to 50 lbs.; anything over 50 lbs. is to be assisted.
- Stand/walk up to 8-10 hours per day.
- Must demonstrate good hand/eye coordination; Must demonstrate good manual dexterity.
- Must be able to repeatedly use arms, hands, and fingers to manipulate parts.
- You must wear the required PPE as directed.
Required Education and Preferred Experience
- High school graduate/GED required
- Forklift certification or prior experience
- 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing/warehouse environment
Schedule & Compensation
- Monday-Thursday 7am –4:30pm | Friday 8am–12pm
- Job Type: Full-time
- Expected hours: 40 per week
- Pay: Â $21.50 - $23.50 / hour
