- Perform basic maintenance, reconstruction, remodeling, and repair services.
- Execute various grounds maintenance tasks to preserve landscape aesthetics.
- Complete formal work orders and follow verbal instructions from Parks Management.
- Grounds keeping: Mow, edge, and trim grass; plant and fertilize trees/shrubs; install sod; and maintain irrigation systems.
- Facility Care: Clean restrooms, empty trash, and repair/install site amenities such as picnic tables, grills, fencing, and signs.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate and maintain tractors, commercial riding mowers, trimmers, edgers, aerators, and seeders.
- Seasonal Operations: Perform snow and ice removal using shovels, snow blowers, and trucks equipped with plow blades and spreaders.
- Preventive Maintenance: Service equipment by changing oil/filters, greasing parts, sharpening blades, and performing minor rust repair/painting.
- Building Maintenance: Perform minor electrical repairs (changing bulbs/ballasts), patch and paint interior/exterior surfaces, and conduct custodial functions.
- Emergency Response: Carry an assigned duty pager and respond to after-hour emergencies or essential tasks (e.g., snow removal) as needed.
- Technical Proficiency: Skill in using a wide variety of hand, power, pneumatic, and carpentry tools.
- Computer Skills: Intermediate proficiency in personal computers, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to work in extreme heat or cold for extended periods; ability to walk long distances, climb, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Communication: Ability to read and write English sufficiently to interpret MSDS sheets, warning labels, and manuals; ability to interact courteously with the public.
- Safety & Vision: Must follow all safety regulations, pass a drug-screening test, and possess 20/20 corrected vision with the ability to see colors clearly.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and insurance with the ability to drive in normal and inclement weather.
- Completion of technical school or college-level courses in a maintenance-related field.
Work Environment:
- May be exposed for prolonged periods to outdoor weather conditions that may vary from extreme heat to extreme cold; and to debris, fumes, odors, airborne particles and dust; may be exposed to the possibility of bodily injury; and may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and other hazardous conditions.
Required Travel:
- The employee is frequently required to travel throughout the County; may be required to travel within and out of state.
