Prototype Weld Supervisor – 2nd Shift

PTM Corporation is seeking an experienced Prototype Weld Supervisor to lead our 2nd Shift welding and fabrication team. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll supervise a small team while actively participating in the fabrication and welding of prototype components for automotive, defense, and other advanced manufacturing programs.

What You'll Do

As the Prototype Weld Supervisor, you'll lead daily shop operations while ensuring prototype weldments are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a small team of welders and fabricators.
  • Assign and prioritize work based on prototype schedules and customer deadlines.
  • Monitor workflow to ensure quality, efficiency, and on-time delivery.
  • Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to team members.
  • Approve employee time records and manage attendance using Plex ERP.
  • Assist with employee development, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a safe, positive, and team-oriented work environment.

Hands-On Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee MIG and TIG welding on steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
  • Fabricate prototype parts, fixtures, and welded assemblies.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, weld symbols, and engineering specifications.
  • Assist Engineering in developing welding methods and fabrication processes for new prototype programs.
  • Troubleshoot fit-up issues and collaborate with Engineering to resolve design challenges.
  • Inspect weld quality and coordinate repairs or rework as needed.
  • Recommend improvements to fixturing, welding techniques, shop layout, and production flow.
  • Coordinate maintenance and troubleshooting of welding equipment and fabrication tools.
  • Maintain compliance with all quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Ensure safe operation of welding equipment and proper use of PPE.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 5 years of welding and fabrication experience.
  • Previous experience in a prototype or low-volume manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in:
    • MIG Welding
    • TIG Welding
    • Steel, Stainless Steel, and Aluminum Welding
  • Ability to read blueprints, weld symbols, and engineering drawings.
  • Experience with fabrication equipment including grinders, saws, and layout tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and prototype problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred

  • Previous supervisory, lead, or team leader experience.
  • AWS Welding Certification (or equivalent).
  • Experience using Plex ERP or similar manufacturing software.
  • Experience supporting prototype vehicle builds, custom fabrication, or low-volume manufacturing.
