What's Your Day Like?

As a Water/Wastewater Operator I, no two days will be exactly the same. You will help operate, inspect, maintain, and repair the City's water supply, treatment and distribution systems, as well as its wastewater treatment and collection facilities.

Your responsibilities may include inspecting and repairing wells, reservoirs, pumping stations, meters, chlorination systems, wastewater pump stations, gauges, pumps, filters, valves, and other treatment equipment. You will monitor system performance, take meter readings, maintain operational records, assist with treatment processes, and help ensure that equipment and facilities function safely and effectively.

You may also install and repair water mains, service connections, valves, hydrants, pipes, and fittings. Additional duties may include pavement cutting, ditch digging, line cleaning, backfilling, grounds maintenance, cleaning wet wells and treatment basins, monitoring electrical systems, and assisting with inventory control.

The position involves operating trucks, backhoes, loaders, skid steers, compactors, pumps, compressors, generators, and other construction and power equipment. Because utility emergencies do not always occur during regular working hours, you will also participate in a rotational on-call schedule.

Most work is performed outdoors or in the field under varying weather conditions. Safety, sound judgment, attention to detail, and dependable service are essential every day.
