Summary

The Assessment Program Specialist is responsible for planning and providing support, resources, and professional learning to schools in support of the District-wide implementation of effective assessment practices, including assessment literacy, assessment development, formative instructional practices, and data-driven instruction.

 Note: This position is grant-funded and thereby staffed year-to-year

Essential Duties

  • Supports District and school-based staff in the implementation of effective assessment practices:
    • Develops and leads the implementation of resources and protocols for data-driven instruction
    • Designs and delivers professional learning on all aspects of assessment, including, but not limited to:  
      • Assessment design and development
      • Instructional planning
      • Balanced assessment
      • Formative instructional practices
      • Assessment leadership
      • Data analysis and action decision making
    • Creates and executes individualized support plans for schools identified by District leadership
  • Manages and provides user support for assessment technologies
    • Responds to technical questions
    • Troubleshoots platform issues
  • Works in collaboration with other departments to: 
    • Builds and maintains valid and reliable District assessments
    • Ensures high-quality assessment practices drive instruction in all content areas
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Education or A closely related field

Certification/Licensure

None required
Valid and clear teaching certificate preferred

Experience Qualifications

 Minimum 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience required; 3 years of leadership experience preferred; Prior experience with leading the implementation of balanced assessment practices and professional staff development preferred; Experience using assessment technologies (e.g. Illuminate) preferred; Experience working within a large, complex organization preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Detailed knowledge and experience with developing balanced assessment plans, building standards-based assessments, and using data to inform instruction
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners across multiple assessment topics and grade levels
  • Knowledge of basic concepts of psychometrics, including reliability, validity, and fairness
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute multiple projects simultaneously to meet short-term objectives and long-term goals
  • Demonstrated ability to implement cycles of continuous improvement and develop innovative solutions that address challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders, including district/school administrators, teachers, and/or community members
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
