FACILITY CUSTODIAN

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

This position provides essential custodial support for the Southwest Arts Center, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for staff, artists, and visitors. The Day Custodian performs routine and specialized cleaning and facility support duties to uphold the center’s operational standards and readiness for public use. This is a full-time position with a regular schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with occasional weekend or evening hours as required for events and special activities.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

· High school diploma or G.E.D is required.

- Assures buildings are properly locked and secured by setting alarms after events have ended and the campus is clear of patrons and staff (including locking front entrance gates).

· Assists in setting up for programs and events inside and outside of buildings and cleans after programs are completed.

· Request supplies and maintain inventory.

· Sweeps, mops, and waxes floors; cleans and disinfects all restrooms, sinks, and water fountains; empties trash, cleans offices and kitchens.

· Cleans furniture, glass, and mirrors; cleans surrounding areas of the facility including parking lots; sweeps entrance ramps and porches; reports repairs to facility supervisor.

· Keeps daily maintenance checklist and supply of necessary forms; completes required forms for completed jobs.

· May be required to possess and maintain additional certifications depending on the area of assignment.

· Requires a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

· Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING

· High school diploma or GED is required.

· Four (4) years of experience in building maintenance and/or custodial experience.

· Buffer and floor maintenance experience preferred.

· Must have dependable transportation.

· The position requires good physical condition to operate the machinery required for floor maintenance and some occasional heavy lifting

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial services.

· Skill in safely operating custodial equipment.

· Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and follow written and verbal instructions.

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly environment.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.

Physical Requirements:

This position classifies the physical exertion requirements such as require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, or rude/irate custom
