Great American Restaurants is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead construction projects and day-to-day job-site execution for restaurant construction, remodels, and capital improvement projects. This role serves GAR’s primary on-site representative and is responsible for ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with company standards.
This is an owner-side field leadership role within a lean team. Our role requires hands-on involvement and accountability for execution. This position is ideal for an experienced Superintendent or Field Construction Manager who wants to move into an owner-side role, gain broader exposure, and build a long-term career while remaining closely connected to the field.
Key Responsibilities
Job-Site Execution
- Lead daily job-site activities for construction, remodels, and capital projects.
- Coordinate all trades, vendors, inspectors and deliveries.
- Maintain job-site safety, quality, cleanliness, and organization.
- Manage sequencing to keep work moving and prevent delays.
Ownership Representation
- Act as GAR’s on-site representative during construction activities.
- Enforce construction standards and design intent.
- Hold general contractors and subcontractors accountable to expectations.
- Coordinate inspections and support punch-list completion.
Technical & Field Coordination
- Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Identify constructability, coordination, and sequencing issues – particularly related to MEP systems.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and Construction leadership to resolve issues.
- Support turnover to Operations by ensuring systems are installed and functioning as intended.
Communication & Collaboration
- Provide regular updates on job-site status, issues, and schedule risks.
- Coordinate with Operations to minimize disruption at operating restaurants.
- Escalate issues appropriately while resolving routine field challenges independently.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a Construction Superintendent or Field Construction Manager.
- Experience in commercial, retail, or restaurant construction and facilities maintenance preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of restaurant and construction and MEP coordination.
- Proven ability to run job sites independently.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and engineering documents.
- Hands-on experience coordinating subcontractors and managing day-to-day field activities.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose field issues and implement practical solutions.
