HWI has a fantastic opportunity to join our Quality Team as a Lead Facility Quality Assurance Technician.

Summary

The Lead Facility Quality Assurance Technician is a specialized and critical position accountable for contributing to HWI's overall business performance by coordinating and leading the daily workflow of tasks executed by technicians in the quality lab.  In conjunction with the Mgr, Facility Quality Assurance, the Lead Facility Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for ensuring all quality programs are in place and being adhered to including product inspection & testing, customer complaint and internal nonconformance investigation and corrective action, internal quality system audits, document and records control, product release\disposition, and lab equipment maintenance.


Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Mgr, Facility Quality Assurance in leading, developing, and coaching other Facility QA Technicians; supporting non-conformance investigations and corrective\preventive actions, leading\supporting internal quality system audits, supporting external quality system audit reviews, maintaining documents and records, maintaining lab equipment
  • Assisting and acting as back up for Facility QA Technicians with daily tasks such as press checks, final inspections and finished goods testing
  • Maintaining quality control inspection/testing database and assuring all data is entered correctly; reviewing, validating and analyzing daily quality assurance testing results and supporting product disposition as appropriate; preparing reports as required; monitoring trends in data and escalating problem patterns to management

Requirements:

  • Requires High School diploma or G.E.D equivalent
  • Prefers B.S. degree in related field
  • Four (4) - six (6) years of experience in a refractories/ceramics manufacturing enviroment, preferably with some direct quality function support experience.
  • Requires fundamental knowledge and familiarity with ISO 9001 based Quality Management System procedures
  • Requires computer operation skills including, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Requires strong interpersonal, communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of refractory products and processes a plus
  • Strong team player with the ability to teach others (coaching) and communicate effectively with all levels of the site organization
  • Requires experience in working towards Lean production
  • Experience with Oracle ERP system a plus
  • Requires problem-solving and decision-making skills

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Physical Activity: Requires 1/3 to 2/3 of time using hands/fingers to handle and/or feel, reaching with hands/arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; less than 1/3 of time standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, tasting.
  • Lifting: Requires lifting up to 50 pounds less than 1/3 of the time
  • Vision: Requires accurate close, distance, color and peripheral vision with depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Environment: Requires 1/3 to 2/3 of time exposed to wet or humid conditions, working near moving mechanical parts, exposed to extreme heat or cold, or at risk of vibration; les than 1/3 of time in and office setting with limited exposure, working in high precarious places, exposed to fumes, airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals, exposed to outdoor weather conditions, at risk of electrical shock, working with explosives or at risk of radiation.
  • Noise: Requires exposure to moderate noise.
