The Reinsurance Specialist performs high-level accounting work requiring comprehensive knowledge of formal accounting theory and practice to ensure current, accurate, and complete financial information in a timely manner. Incumbents routinely encounter and resolve situations/problems for which no precedent exists.

Essential FunctionsÂ
- Work independently to perform general accounting functions, such as classifying and analyzing information, journal entries, and account reconciliation which require complex transactions and treatments.
- Apply well-established accounting principles, theories, concepts and practices to difficult problems, independently applying appropriate analytical procedures.
- Provide consultation on various complex accounting and financial reporting issues.
- Prepare and analyze various reports, which may include, but are not limited to consolidated GAAP (Shareholder and SEC), Statutory, and management information, expense, and planning, regulatory, tax, investment, reinsurance, and employee benefits.
- Recommend and lead changes to areas of responsibility that would enhance, improve or facilitate job performance, processing or workflow and changes and enhancements to related technology.
- May provide work direction and training to other department members or be assigned to lead projects and coordinate implementation, working with other departments and external parties.
- Coordinate audit engagements and provide financial analysis and data to auditors, state insurance department personnel, reinsurance intermediaries, reinsurers, and other outside organizations as required.
- Keep informed of changes to GAAP, SEC, and/or STAT regulatory requirements, which ultimately impact financial data.
- Provide high-level service to internal and external customers ensuring their accounting needs are met in a timely manner.
- May perform other related duties and special projects as assigned or requested.
Minimum RequirementsÂ
Education, training, and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field and/or equivalent combination of High School Diploma/GED, training and work experience.Â
- CPA or MBA highly desirable.
- 5+ years of reinsurance experience including the recording of quota share, external and catastrophe premiums and losses, billing, cash settlements, and financial reporting, including disclosures and Schedule F, and other regulatory filings highly desirable.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Advanced software skills: including but not limited to: Excel (Pivots, XLOOKUPs, SUMIFs, nested formulas, Power Query), Word, Access, PowerPoint, CODA, and various annual statement software packages.
- Requires advanced accounting theory and practice knowledge to independently manage accounting functions.
- Strong quantitative, problem-solving skills, communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced working environment.Â
- Ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy, able to prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
