GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The Systems Administrator provides critical infrastructure, hardware, and application support through planning, design, testing, installation, and ongoing maintenance of enterprise systems. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and optimization of the organization's computing platforms, data storage, and network environments. Working under general direction, the Systems Administrator handles complex technical issues, acts as a technical advisor for hardware and software procurement, and collaborates with executive leadership and internal stakeholders to align IT infrastructure with organizational goals.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Infrastructure & Systems Management: Design, construct, configure, and maintain robust information technology systems, operating systems, and hardware/software platforms.
  • Data & Storage Operations: Oversee data transfer, storage architecture, backup management, and data retrieval processes to support continuous operations.
  • System Optimization & Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve complex service issues regarding servers, applications, and hardware; identify workflow inefficiencies and implement optimal technical solutions.
  • Strategic Consulting & Reporting: Consult with leadership on data management, systems compilation, and reporting to inform institutional policies and decision-making.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners to evaluate and support the technical needs of various departments.
  • User Support & Training: Provide advanced troubleshooting for user applications/programming issues and deliver technical training and learning opportunities for staff and stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • In-depth knowledge of systems analysis, testing procedures, and standard computing platforms.
  • Proven expertise in maintaining effective hardware, operating system, and software platforms.
  • Strong capability to troubleshoot complex, highly varied technical problems independently using specialized tools and established standards.
  • Excellent communication skills for consulting with executive leadership and providing client training.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related field and 1-3 years of directly related professional experience in systems administration, IT infrastructure support, or systems analysis is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Conditions are those of a typical office environment, requiring frequent oral communication with students and colleagues, the ability to enter data and written communications in electronic format in a timely manner, and sufficient mobility to be present and address students, their parents, and fellow professionals at appropriate college and regional functions.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 15 pounds; standing, sitting and/or walking for brief or long periods
