Description

The Assistant Operations Manager provides direct operational oversight across yard, shredder, and ELV processing while reinforcing safety, production efficiency, environmental compliance, and employee accountability. The Assistant Operations Manager serves as a key link between frontline supervisors and the Operations Manager, ensuring consistent execution of operational plans, policies, and performance expectations. This role will operate on second shift (11am-7pm Monday - Friday, Saturday availability is a must.)


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing day-to-day facility operations, including shredding, downstream, and yard material flow. 
  • Coordinate daily and weekly production priorities with all department Leads. 
  • Monitor throughput, downtime, and material flow to support production targets and minimize bottlenecks. 
  • Step in to supervise operations during the Operations Manager’s absence.
  • Coordinate with EHS Specialist & HR to ensure a strong safety culture, enforce all safety and company polies and procedures. 
  • Participate in safety meetings, audits, incident investigations, and corrective action plans. 
  • Ensure environmental compliance related to ELV processing, fluid removal, depollution, stormwater, and housekeeping standards. 
  • Manage the Shredder and downstream operations to ensure safety, production and compliance. 
  • Reinforce proper PPE use, equipment operation, and safe work practices.
  • Support implementation of continuous improvement initiatives and operational best practices.


Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in metal recycling, scrap processing, heavy industrial operations, or a similar environment. 
  • Prior supervisory or lead experience in a yard, shredder, or processing operation. 
  • MA Hoisting license 2a1c 
  • Strong working knowledge of shredder feed preparation, ELV depollution and ferrous/non-ferrous segregation. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and environmental compliance. 
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and hold teams accountable.
  • Familiarity with OSHA and environmental regulations related to recycling operations. 
  • Mechanical aptitude or experience working alongside maintenance teams. 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in an industrial environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Requires standing, lifting, and operating machinery for extended periods.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
