Production Manager 1 – Fallon, NV


Idaho Asphalt Supply, Inc. is a leading asphalt supplier and marketer in the Inland Northwest and Pacific Northwest Regions. With plants in Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, California, Arizona and Nevada, IAS supplies a diverse product line of asphalts, polymer modified asphalts and asphalt emulsions to the Road maintenance and construction industry. IAS is looking for an energized, full-time opening for the Production Manager at our facility in Fallon, NV.

Position Overview

This is a hybrid Production/Maintenance Manager. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Manager is responsible for all aspects of plant operations and maintenance, including production, staffing, EH&S compliance, housekeeping, equipment reliability, preventative maintenance, inventory management, quality specifications, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role serves as a hands-on leader responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable plant performance while supporting operational goals across all facility systems and equipment.

The Production Manager works closely with operations, dispatch, vendors, and plant personnel to maintain production efficiency, minimize downtime, and support long-term asset reliability. This is a “working manager” role requiring both leadership and direct involvement in plant operations and maintenance activities.


Position Responsibilities:

Operator 5 Duties:

  • All Level 4 duties.
  • Independent and processing expert on all systems.
  • Boiler system efficiency expert.
  • Back-up to Plant Manager and other Production Manager.
  • Lead projects in any plant area.
  • Independent development (ID) improvement opportunities.
  • Track metrics and savings.
  • Maintain all processes.
  • Generate and print batch tickets.
  • Schedule employees.
  • Provide input on employee performance reviews.
  • Trains/leads Operator 1, 2, 3, and 4.


 Plant Operations & Leadership

  • Oversee day-to-day plant operations and maintenance activities.
  • Lead all aspects of liquid asphalt plant production and operational reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with EH&S standards, company policies, and housekeeping expectations.
  • Develop and improve plant systems and operational processes to support efficient material production.
  • Coordinate closely with dispatch and operations teams to meet production schedules and customer demands.
  • Address operational issues and customer concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain accurate production, maintenance, and operational records.
  • Schedule employees and provide input on employee performance reviews. 
  • Train, mentor, and lead Operators 1, 2, 3, and 4. 
  • Monitor plant performance and allocate resources to maintain acceptable operational standards. 
  • Assign and monitor achievement of plant operational and maintenance goals.


 Maintenance & Reliability

  • Lead preventative and predictive maintenance programs for all plant equipment and facility systems. 
  • Responsible for maintenance and reliability of tanks, piping systems, pumps, railcar movers, forklifts, boilers, hot oil heaters, and related industrial equipment. 
  • Plan and execute component-level rebuilds and repairs of mechanical and electrical equipment. 
  • Troubleshoot operational, mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues. 
  • Coordinate with vendors for repairs, technical support, and replacement parts procurement. 
  • Manage spare parts inventory and improve visibility and standardization across operations. 
  • Prioritize maintenance and reliability activities to minimize downtime and maximize production efficiency. 
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, efficiency, safety, and cost reduction


 

Required Skills/Abilities:
 

To be a strong fit for this opportunity you will have:

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 5 or more years of related experience/education/certification.
  • Previous work experience in managing plant/industrial facility preferred.
  • 1 or more years of welding experience
  • PLC troubleshooting
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting
  • The ability to perform basic arithmetic operations accurately (add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate percentages).
  • Exceptional computer skills (Microsoft office, excel, word, PowerPoint).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift, carry, pull, and/or push or otherwise move 25/50/80 pounds daily/frequently.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and climb daily/frequently.
  • Must be able to walk on, or work on an open grated catwalk 50 feet high.
  • Must be able to carry a 3” x 20’ rubber asphalt hoses a distance of 120’ unassisted.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders daily/frequently to a height of 50 feet.
  • Must be able to work in a crouched position beneath transport trailers or rails cars for a minimum of 20 minutes at a time for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Must be able to work in enclosed or confined spaces (tanks).
  • Must be able to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach/working overhead occasionally.
  • Must be able to sit, with keyboard use/repetitive hand motion occasionally.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in extreme weather and perform heavy physical labor in safe manner, work indoors and outdoors in and around industrial and electrical equipment and work in temperature extremes due to weather conditions and operating equipment.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective gear on a daily basis.
