Description
The Master Black Belt (MBB) serves as the senior subject matter expert for Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) initiatives across Navy Medicine. This role provides strategic leadership, oversight, and mentorship in applying Lean Six Sigma (LSS) and Get Real Get Better (GRGB) methodologies to improve operational efficiency, reduce variability, and enhance mission outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Process Improvement Leadership
- Lead enterprise-level CPI initiatives aligned with Navy Medicine prioritiesÂ
- Apply advanced Lean Six Sigma methodologies including DMAIC, DMADV, and Rapid Improvement Events (RIEs)Â
- Identify systemic inefficiencies and drive organization-wide transformation effortsÂ
- Ensure alignment with ASQ Body of Knowledge and industry best practicesÂ
Program Oversight & Execution
- Oversee multiple concurrent improvement projects across BUMED and subordinate commandsÂ
- Validate project scopes, measurable outcomes, and alignment with strategic initiativesÂ
- Ensure standardization of CPI frameworks, tools, and documentationÂ
Mentorship & Training
- Mentor and coach Black Belts and Green BeltsÂ
- Conduct training sessions and professional development programsÂ
- Support certification readiness and review project submissions for accuracy and completenessÂ
Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with senior leadership, project sponsors, and cross-functional teamsÂ
- Present findings, recommendations, and performance metrics to executive stakeholdersÂ
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement across all organizational levelsÂ
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Healthcare Administration, or related fieldÂ
- Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt certification (required)Â
- Minimum 5+ years of relevant CPI/LSS experienceÂ
- Demonstrated expertise in ASQ MBB Body of Knowledge or equivalentÂ
- Experience leading enterprise-wide process improvement initiativesÂ
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting DoD, Navy, or healthcare environmentsÂ
- Strong data analysis, facilitation, and executive communication skillsÂ
- Experience mentoring and developing LSS practitioners
