The Pediatric Team is seeking an APP Lead to support the Neurology Team. The Pediatric Service Line is comprised of board-certified and hospital-employed physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners who are dedicated to the academic mission at Inova.

Advance practice providers in this section treat patients who often require life support and attend multidisciplinary team which includes our physicians-in-training, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, dietitians, social workers among others. They also collaborate with physicians from other medical and surgical specialties to assure best possible outcomes of critically ill patients. We invite patients and family representatives to attend daily bedside rounds in order to facilitate communication, understanding, and participation in decision–making.

Position details: 

• Clinical resource for all direct-report APPs

• Liaison between APPs, nursing, physicians, and other providers

• Ensures appropriate scheduling and staffing is maintained and escalates staffing needs in an appropriate and timely manner

• Provides guidance on quality and safety initiatives and promotes psychological safety among all APPs

• Develops and implements process improvement plans with particular focus on delivering quality, safe, and efficient care

• Critically evaluates care delivery structures and plans

• Identifies educational opportunities and ensures appropriate delivery of structured opportunities

• Works alongside physician director on initiatives and committees and ensures appropriate representation and participation in unit or practice level committees

• Identifies opportunities for APPs to participate in research

• Appropriately communicates needs to manager and provides strategic input on solutions

 

Clinical Duties And Shift Expectations:

• The lead position is expected to weight clinical practice during night shift or day shift

• Rotate across weekends and nights, if needed, with an adequate frequency to understand specific needs of those shifts, making himself/herself available for communication of needs/problems/needed improvements to follow up with the MCCS Medical Director and/or the Director of Advanced Practice Provider.

• Allow for least 12 hours per month of administrative/nonclinical time to accomplish tasks and follow up for projects, research, and leadership communication in order to facilitate an organized

 

Minimum Requirements: 

Certification - Basic Life Support prior to start; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (for Critical Care) upon start; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (for Pediatrics) upon start

Licensure - Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner; If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License(depending on State of primary residence) AND a license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND a "Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/ supervising physician(s), AND a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician, AND "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances).

Experience - Prior experience required. 

Education - For Nurse Practitioners: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Master's Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post-masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, OR certificate from an education program that is accredited by the Council of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs/Schools, American College of Nurse Midwives, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for Nursing; For Physician Assistants: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program

 Preferred Requirements: 

3 years of experience as NP/PA
