OceanView at Falmouth is seeking a Staff Accountant to support the day-to-day operations of the finance office. Reporting to the Director of Financial Operations, this position is responsible for helping ensure that all accounting functions necessary to produce complete, accurate, and timely financial statements and analysis reports are performed.
The Staff Accountant will work both independently and collaboratively as part of the financial operations team, taking ownership of assigned responsibilities and managing multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment. This role requires strong organization, sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Staff Accountant
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and post general ledger journal entries
- Assist with month-end close processes related to accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Maintain confidentiality of financial information
- Process bank transfers and bank reconciliations
- Support bi-weekly payroll funding
- Support accounts payable processing, including check preparation and payment approvals
- Prepare account reconciliations and financial analysis
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements and variance analysis
- Assist with budget preparation and financial forecasting
- Process HUD replacement reserve requests and sales tax returns
- Assist with preparing schedules and gathering documentation for external audits
- Complete special projects as assigned by the Director of Financial Operations
- Prepare resale or new construction closing statements
- Provide backup coverage for other Accounting Coordinators and the Payroll Coordinator during absences and vacations Staff Accountant
Qualifications
Education
- Associate’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
Experience
- 1–3 years of related accounting or financial experience required
- Experience in a private environment, preferably multi-entity, preparing and analyzing financial information
- Thorough understanding of GAAP required
- Prior audit support or experience working with external auditors preferred
Skills
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required
- Experience with accounting software required
- Familiarity with Yardi software preferred
- Strong time management, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines Staff Accountant
Schedule
This position typically works normal business hours and is expected to consistently meet an 8:30 AM–5:00 PM, Monday–Friday schedule. Flexibility is essential in order to meet deadlines.
