Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Certified Educator
Position Summary
We are seeking a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Certified Educator to facilitate and oversee Clinical Pastoral Education programs in accordance with the standards of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).
This position is responsible for classroom education, experiential learning, student supervision, accreditation standards, and supporting an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care.
The role will include a combination of virtual or onsite classroom instruction and experiential training, with approximately 25–50% classroom facilitation and 50–75% experiential learning and supervision.
The ideal candidate is comfortable facilitating virtual education while also being willing to work onsite and travel between regional campuses when needed.
Key Responsibilities
CPE Education & Supervision
Facilitate CPE classroom education through virtual or onsite learning environments.
Lead online classroom training sessions and debrief experiential training activities.
Provide direct clinical supervision to CPE students.
Develop student-centered learning curricula and educational experiences.
Facilitate student visits, including virtual visits when appropriate.
Coordinate experiential learning opportunities and student assignments.
Provide mentorship, education, feedback, and professional guidance to CPE students.
Identify learning needs and provide timely, constructive feedback.
Provide recognition and encouragement while addressing performance concerns through appropriate corrective intervention.
Facilitate student orientation and required training.
Support students in developing spiritual care competencies and professional skills.
Coordinate student spiritual support and facilitate self-directed learning within group settings.
Mentor and educate individuals participating in the Certified Educator Candidate program.
ACPE Accreditation & Program Standards
Maintain CPE program accreditation and compliance with applicable ACPE standards.
Review, update, and develop CPE program policies and procedures.
Maintain and update student handbooks and educational materials.
Ensure accreditation documentation and program materials are complete and accurate.
Prepare for ACPE accreditation reviews.
Facilitate Professional Advisory Group meetings and communicate educational activities and program updates.
Gather feedback and recommendations to support ongoing program excellence.
Ensure educational practices remain consistent with applicable ACPE requirements.
Recruitment & Student Development
Recruit, interview, and participate in the selection of candidates for CPE internships and supervisory education.
Ensure admissions and selection processes follow established requirements.
Develop appropriate learning objectives and individualized educational plans.
Monitor student progress and address educational or professional development needs.
Maintain appropriate documentation related to student education and supervision.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Support an interdisciplinary approach to the delivery of spiritual care.
Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and clinical rounds.
Collaborate with chaplains, healthcare professionals, educators, and other members of the care team.
Promote integration of spiritual care into comprehensive patient-centered care.
Support professional leadership development within chaplaincy and CPE services.
Professional Development
Participate in professional leadership and educational development opportunities.
Remain current with developments in chaplaincy, spiritual care, CPE education, and related professional organizations.
Participate in relevant professional organizations and activities.
Pursue continuing education and maintain all required professional certifications.
Demonstrate ongoing commitment to professional growth and excellence in spiritual care education.
Required Qualifications
Master's-level theological degree from an accredited seminary.
Certified Educator certification required.
Must maintain certification as a CPE Educator through the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).
National Faculty status preferred.
Ordination, endorsement, or commissioning through an appropriate faith tradition, denomination, or church authority.
Board Certified Chaplain certification or certification eligibility through an appropriate professional chaplaincy organization.
Certification-eligible candidates must obtain required board certification within the applicable timeframe.
1–2 years of experience providing spiritual care in an acute-care or similar healthcare setting required.

Strong teaching, supervision, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to facilitate both virtual and in-person educational experiences.

Work Arrangement
This is a reserved contract position running from June 1 through August 28, with potential for extension.
The position is primarily designed to support virtual classroom training, including online instruction and debriefing of experiential training sessions. Candidates who are willing to work onsite are strongly preferred.
The position may also require travel or floating between regional campuses based on educational and operational needs.
