Department Details

Sanford Children's Hospital is a Level IV NICU with dedicated NICU flight team and Level II Trauma Center. Our Child Life department has a scholarship opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career as a Child Life Specialist. This has a commitment of employment.

Job Summary

Ensure the effective operation and administration of the Child Life department by overseeing, evaluating and developing programs that promote family-centered care and facilitates the strengthening of positive coping and resiliency skills within the healthcare setting. Utilizes expert knowledge of child development, family systems theories, and the developmental effects of stress and trauma on children to ensure appropriate interventions are implemented. Possesses expert knowledge of medical diagnosis and procedures. Understands special needs of children with chronic or disabling conditions, with expertise in the use of play activities in a health care environment and in-depth knowledge of research regarding children in health care settings. Responsible for the program's strategic and operational budget and program functioning.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Human Development, or related field required, Master's degree preferred.

Five years of professional Child Life experience preferred.

Certification as a Child Life Specialist (CCLS) is required.
