Essential Job Functions:
The essential functions of a restaurant Junior Accountant are to support the accounting team in managing daily financial operations. Their primary duties involve maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with reporting, and ensuring the timely processing of financial transactions.
Key Essential Functions:
- Daily Financial Record Management: A Junior Accountant is responsible for reviewing, reconciling, and investigating daily sales, cash deposits, and credit card receipts from all restaurant locations. This ensures that all revenue is accurately recorded and matches bank statements.
- Period-End Reporting Assistance: They assist with preparing the books for the end of a fiscal period. This includes completing balance sheet reconciliations and creating necessary journal entries for accruals, adjustments, and reclassifications.
- Accounts Payable and Vendor Payments: A crucial function is processing vendor invoices and managing payments to vendors via checks or electronic methods (ACH). This requires diligence to ensure bills are paid on time and records are properly updated.
- Financial Analysis and Support: Junior Accountants help with various ad-hoc projects, such as assisting with sales and tax reporting, and supporting the creation of budgets and financial forecasts. Their analysis helps provide a clear financial picture for management.
Responsibilities:
- Review, reconcile, and investigate daily sales, cash deposits, and credit card receipts.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations.
- Make period-end journal entries as needed, such as accruals, adjustments, and reclassifications.
- Process vendor invoices and pay vendors via check and ACH.
- Assist in sales and tax reporting.
- Help with creating budgets, forecasts, and ad-hoc analysis.
- Other ad-hoc projects, as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Education & Experience: An Accounting or Finance degree from an accredited university is preferred. A minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience is required, with strong intercompany skills desired.
- Job Specifications:
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Must be able to work both in a team and be self-directed with independent decision-making capabilities.
- Must possess strong communication and negotiation skills to handle simple and/or complex situations.
- Must be resourceful, results-driven, and able to multitask and prioritize work with a sense of urgency.
Physical Demands:
- Primarily office-based with occasional travel to restaurant locations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
- Occasionally required to lift and carry materials for meetings or events.
Work Environment:
- Hybrid role with a mix of office and remote work.
- Occasional evening or weekend availability.
