Job Description

The Calibration Engineer will be part of the North American team responsible for Engine Management Systems (EMS) within the two-wheeler and powersports segment. This role focuses on the Calibration Engineer working directly with the customer and Bosch System Engineer to define engine performance criteria. With defined requirements the calibrator will modify software labels allowing the engine to achieve the customer defined performance while meeting emission regulations.

Responsibilities: 

  • Customer Collaboration: Proactively review and thoroughly understand customer engine function requirements, acting as a primary technical contact.
  • Calibration Development: Precisely modify calibration labels within the Bosch Engine Control software. This includes utilizing advanced Bosch development and measurement tools (e.g., ETAS INCA, ASCMO, etc.) to achieve customer-defined performance requirements, including: power, torque, drivability, and fuel economy.
  • Emissions Compliance: Ensure all calibration activities meet and exceed relevant emission regulations and standards.
  • Testing & Validation: Support comprehensive development and final production validation testing, both on state-of-the-art dynamometers and on-vehicle, as required, to confirm calibration effectiveness.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare clear, concise, and accurate technical reports summarizing engine calibration strategies, results, and recommendations.
  • Cross-Functional Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with both customer engineering teams and Bosch Global cross-functional teams (including software development, hardware engineering, and project management) to ensure seamless integration and successful project execution.

Travel Requirement: 25% - 50% travel will be required for this position.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering
  • Must have 5+ years technical experience with engine management systems for mobility systems
  • Must have Motorcycle endorsement.
  • Experience with motorcycles and off-road recreational vehicles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer interface and organizational skills.
  • Experience with engine and/or chassis dynamometer testing.
  • Prefer experience with Bosch Powertrain Solutions software development process and tools.
  • Proficiency with Bosch Engine Control Units (ECUs) and calibration tools (e.g., ETAS INCA, ASCMO, MDA, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of internal combustion engine principles, control strategies, and powertrain architectures.
  • Familiarity with emission regulations (e.g., EPA, CARB, Euro) and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with engine/chassis dynamometer testing and vehicle-level validation.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with customers and diverse global teams.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed to support customer projects and testing activities.
