The Lead Medical Assistant is an integral part of the patient care team and acts as the liaison between the provider and the patient to meet the medical needs of the patient. They also serve as a role model, by promoting communication, collaboration, teamwork, and accountability. They provide guidance and instruction to all medical assistants within the department.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certified Medical Assistant
  • Completed a formal Medical Assistant training program -or- minimum of three (3) years working as a Medical Assistant
  • BLS Certification (must be obtained within six (6) months of hire
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Medical Assistant

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of Frontline Leadership Program or Documented leadership and/or conflict resolution training or education
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Proficient customer service skills

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effectively collaborate with department leadership to develop/implement process improvement strategies
  • Establishes strong working relationships with providers while facilitating excellent patient care
  • Consistently exceeds customer service expectations and communicates effectively
  • Establishes status as a super user with strong data entry and computer abilities in addition to proficiency when performing department specific clinical skills and provides interdepartmental training and guidance while acting as a resource for all staff
  • Must be able to perform accurately and quickly in a busy, stressful environment, setting priorities as to duties and provides guidance to other medical assistants to ensure appropriate prioritization
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in telephone triage, to manage patient calls and provide appropriate intervention.
  • Understands and follows policy and procedure
  • Builds productive interpersonal relationships in every encounter and demonstrates teamwork
  • Actively participates in the department and looks for opportunities to improve processes
  • Actively participate in the development and implementation of orientation and onboarding processes for new medical assistants
  • Each employee is responsible for implementing SJRMC’s Service Standards into their daily work:

Safety, Courtesy, Effectiveness, and Stewardship

  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands and Environmental Work Conditions:

  • Accepts the risk of exposure to job-related illness and injury which may cause long-term health problems
  • Must be able to see with corrective eyewear, hear clearly with assistance and when required differentiate colors accurately
  • Must be able to sit and walk frequently or for long periods of time; must be able to stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist routinely
  • Constant use of the computer and keyboard
  • Must be able to lift greater than fifty (50) pounds and push up to three hundred (300) pounds frequently

Special Demands:

  • Sets limits when dealing with angry, hostile, or sometimes verbally or physically abusive patients and families in an attempt to ensure a safe, respectful environment that will support the delivery of care
  • Ability to work in high stress environments with constant interruptions
