Primary Position Objectives

The Entry-Level Machinist supports Tool & Die operations by assisting with precision machining, grinding, and basic fabrication tasks. Working alongside experienced Tool & Diemakers on custom tooling and components. 


Position Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Description of Duties


  • Operate manual equipment including Bridgeport mills, surface grinders, and lathes. 
  • Square, grind and finish components to right tolerances and high-quality standards.
  • Use measuring tools such as comparators (shadow graph and digital Staretts), micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc. 
  • Perform basic machining tasks including squaring blocks, drilling, tapping, and deburring. 
  • Basic machine repair skills
  • Sets-up and operates standard machine tools and other machinery to close tolerances in manufacturing machine parts.
  • Occasionally may be assigned to relatively complex work, under supervision, normally assigned to Machinist 2.
  • Occasionally meets with other personnel regarding construction, repair or maintenance of machinery or tools. 
  • Performs Lock out/Tag out safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.
  • Maintains required records.

Other

  • Operates forklift trucks and other material devices in the movement of heavy machinery
  • Maintains adherence to company policies, environmental and safety standards, and good housekeeping standards.
  • May be required to assist or otherwise instruct other personnel.
  • Performs other duties as may be required.
  • Attendance is an essential function of the job.


Qualifications

 

Education/Experience

  • High School, Trade School graduate or demonstrated equivalent skills.
  • Experience in manual machining.
  • Strong working knowledge of Bridgeport mills, surface grinders, and basic lathe operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to make independent judgment decisions.

Physical Requirements

  • Visual ability (corrected) to read directions and prints and to inspect parts closely to ensure that they meet specifications.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate machinery for precision work.
  • Physical ability to do work requiring frequent stooping and bending.
  • Ability to lift objects from lower to a higher position or moving horizontally from 

 position-to-position.

  • Ability to lift to 35 lbs. unassisted
