ROUSTABOUT CREW LEAD

 

Job Summary:

 

The Roustabout Crew Lead is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of oilfield construction and maintenance activities. This role provides day-to-day leadership for roustabout operations, coordinates field work, and supports troubleshooting and execution of complex tasks related to facility construction, equipment installation, and maintenance. The Roustabout Crew Lead directs work activities, provides technical guidance to roustabout crews, and supports continuity of operations in the absence of the Roustabout Supervisor.


Essential Duties:

 

  • Provide accountability for the safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of roustabout construction and maintenance activities across assigned operations.
  • Serve as the field lead for roustabout crews by coordinating daily work, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring effective job execution.
  • Supervise and support roustabout crews in the construction, repair, and maintenance of oilfield facilities, including foundations, flow lines, and equipment installation.
  • Operate and oversee the safe use of trucks, trailers, backhoes, and other heavy equipment required for field operations.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Inspect vehicles, equipment, and job sites to verify proper working condition, safety compliance, and readiness.
  • Identify, evaluate, and assist in resolving operational challenges, equipment issues, and jobsite inefficiencies.
  • Ensure proper loading, transportation, and securing of equipment, materials, and tools.
  • Maintain accurate records of work activities, equipment usage, inspections, and maintenance documentation.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and on-the-job training to roustabout personnel to promote consistent work practices and skill development.
  • Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and required training programs.
  • Communicate job progress, equipment needs, and operational issues to the Roustabout Supervisor.
  • This position is expected to maintain strict confidentiality of company information, employee records, and any sensitive data encountered in the course of work.


Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 

 

  • Strong knowledge of oilfield construction practices, facility maintenance, and equipment installation.
  • Ability to safely operate and oversee the use of trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment such as backhoes.
  • Working knowledge of equipment inspection, preventative maintenance, and jobsite safety practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic work instructions, diagrams, and project requirements.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple crews and tasks.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to provide clear direction and guidance to field personnel.
  • Mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting and resolving minor equipment and operational issues.
  • Ability to promote and maintain a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with safety procedures.
  • Ability to safely operate company vehicles and travel to field locations as required.

 

Education and Experience:

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Several years of experience in roustabout work, oilfield construction, or related field required.
  • Previous experience in a lead or supervisory role preferred.
  • Class A CDL required.
  • Must meet Driver Acceptability Profile requirements (driving position).
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable.

 

Working Conditions: 

 

  • Work will be primarily in the field environment.
  • Exposure to varying outdoor conditions including heat, cold, dust, and noise.
  • PPE required in field settings.
  • Occasional extended hours may be required based on operational needs.
  • Physical activity including standing, squatting/kneeling, walking, bending, climbing, and lifting (constant up to 30 pounds, occasional of 31-100 pounds) may be required.
