The Simulaton Lab Coordinator supports the administrative and operational needs of the new SJRMC Simulation Lab (which provides simulation-based training to the SJRMC Internal medicine residency using a variety of modalities including, but not limited to, high-fidelity manikins, procedure trainers, and virtual reality).

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in relevant field such as biology, chemistry, health sciences, neuroscience, exercise physiology, etc.
  • One (1) year experience as a Physical Therapist or Registered Nurse
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in relevant field such as biology, chemistry, health sciences, neuroscience, exercise physiology, etc.
  • Two (2) years’ experience as a Physical Therapist or Registered Nurse
     

Duties and Responsibilities:
Operations:

  • Prepare the lab for initial opening by organizing supplies, creating a storage system, and setting up new simulation equipment.
  • Utilize and operate different simulation technologies, including anatomic models, task trainers, high-fidelity computer-based simulators, and virtual reality-based simulators.
  • Serve as simulation operator controlling manual and/or pre-programmed scenarios with course directors or designated faculty.
  • Set up courses as specified within the curriculum and perform breakdown and equipment checks for the course.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment related to all simulation programs. This includes monitoring equipment status, supply levels, obtaining quotes, and assisting with purchasing of new equipment.
  • Provide recommendations for improving operational systems, new equipment needs, and improvement in the quality of the programming.
  • Implement an ongoing maintenance program for all simulation-based equipment, medical devices, and the lab itself, including cleaning, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, updating, and ensuring all equipment is in good working order. 
  • Communicate with equipment manufacturers and faculty regarding equipment and software upgrades, updates, and lab technical needs.
  • Other tasks as needed by the lab.

Administration:

  • Create and manage a scheduling system for the lab
  • Create and manage system to track lab usage
  • Create and manage electronic system for tracking courses and curriculum
  • Provide tours of lab, as needed
  • Create and post signage, as needed
  • Monitor center finances and annual budget

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Self-motivated, requiring little to no supervision, to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of patient simulation technologies and applications, including hardware and software, preferred. 
  • Knowledge of educational program design and development related to operations, including but not limited to developing schedules, scenario design, and equipment needs. 
  • Knowledge of audio/video equipment and software for recording, streaming, duplication, mixing, and editing. 
  • Ability to learn new software and hardware quickly and independently.
  • Capacity to assess, troubleshoot, and fix equipment failures promptly.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Outlook email, Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Zoom teleconferencing platform, and site-specific software.  Knowledge of Mac O/S is beneficial.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills necessary to engage successfully and courteously with diverse staff, students, visitors, vendors, etc.  
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments and sensitive issues.
  • Fastidious attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to negotiate and problem-solve. 
  • Strong analytical and organizational abilities to make effective decisions quickly while maintaining high-quality customer service standards.
  • Capacity to maintain a composed demeanor under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to foster a team environment and work independently and as a team member.
  • Robust independent judgment skills to multi-task, organize work, and set priorities.
  • Periodic ability to work outside of standard business hours.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, negotiate and problem-solve.
