General Summary

Prepares, cooks, and/or bakes food dishes in bulk quantities to serve to customers. Using prepared menus, assists with planning and coordinating food preparation and cooking activities so that items are ready for serving at the appropriate time. Assists with training and instructing lower-level staff in routine kitchen tasks.

• Clean, prepare, and cook food dishes in bulk quantities using menus prepared by higher-level staff.

• Clean and store kitchen equipment and utensils to maintain proper sanitation standards.
• Measure and determine portion sizes to ensure accurate calorie counts and uniform serving sizes.
• Operate power quantity cooking equipment such as mixing, peeling, and chopping machines, along with large commercial kitchen equipment.
• Assist with inventorying and requisitioning food and kitchen supplies to ensure necessary materials are available.

This is a part time position limited to 1,000 hours per year and will support the Glen Oaks Golf Course Grill Room Operation.

May assist with training or instructing of lower-level staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Cleans, prepares, cooks and bakes food dishes in bulk quantities using menus prepared by higher level staff.

Cleans and stores kitchen equipment and utensils to maintain proper sanitation. Participates in mixing and baking operations and the cleaning of baking area.

Determines the size of portions to ensure proper calorie count and uniform serving size.

Operates power quantity cooking equipment including mixing, peeling, and chopping machines, and large commercial kitchen equipment.

Inventories and requisitions food and kitchen supplies to maintain necessary materials.

Prepares food in accordance with special medical or religious diet menus prepared by higher level supervision.

Assists with inventories and requisitioning food and kitchen supplies.

ESSENTIAL MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to communicate to accurately convey information. Ability to use typical kitchen equipment and supplies.

May be required to stand for long periods of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a typical kitchen setting.

May be exposed to areas of hot temperatures, and exposure to smells, dust, gases, and vapors. May be exposed to sharp and/or dangerous objects, moving or dangerous machinery.

May be required to travel to other locations during the course of work.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) Test.

Have passed their 18th birthday.

Must have at least six (6) months of full-time work experience preparing and cooking food in an institution or commercial establishment.

Additional Minimum Qualifications

B.ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Reasonable knowledge of quantity food preparation procedures and practices and the proper use of quantity food cooking equipment.

Reasonable ability to estimate quantity of food needed for serving large quantities of persons.

Reasonable knowledge of kitchen sanitation, hygiene and proper food handling and storage practices.

Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.

Physical condition that will permit standing or walking for extended periods of time.
