The electrician is responsible for the diagnostic and repairs of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, or other transmission equipment. Troubleshoots malfunctions, service and operates electrical equipment using conventional and digital multi-meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, frequency counters, oscilloscopes, circuit card testers, transistor testers, load banks and hand tools.


Responsibilities

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:

  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on electrical support equipment.
  • Installs or repairs any of a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating/Ac units, conduit systems, or other transmission equipment.
  • Performs a variety of electrical trade functions such as the installation, maintenance, or repair of equipment for the generation, distribution, or utilization of electric energy.
  • Tests, repairs, overhauls, modifies and maintains electrical equipment of a specialized nature such as automatic alternator synchronizing equipment, amplifying control units, voltage regulating equipment, generators, switching and control panels, and junction boxes, in motor vehicles such as automobiles, buses and trucks.
  • Diagnose system malfunctions, isolate causes, and correct deficiencies. Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using Technical Manuals (TMs) and/or Electronic Technical Manuals (ETMs).
  • Working from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications, locating and diagnosing trouble in the electrical system or equipment, working standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment, and using a variety of electrician's hand tools and measuring and testing instruments.
  • Researches and requisitions materials, and prepares necessary documents and reports.
  • Disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet organizational/operational objectives.
  • Job duties and responsibilities may change due to contractual requirements.

MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:

  • Extensive use of basic shop equipment, disagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, air tools, and lifting devices.
  • Steel Toe shoes are required.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas while work is being conducted. Such PPE includes, but is not limited to: Face Mask, head, foot, hand, vision and hearing protective devices.
  • Periodic use of computer systems and multi-function devices (MFD).

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is generally conducted in a shop environment. However, duties may involve the conduct of work in the outdoors area with a potential exposure to extreme climatic condition.
  • Work requires stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolong sitting and occasional working in cramped and awkward position.
  • Frequent exposure to conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.
  • A normal work week is 40 hours (5 days a week). Must be willing to work additional hours when mission requires.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Must be able to climb up and down ladders and stairs, as well as bend, twist, and squad for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to pull, push and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Function in conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three (3) to six (6) years of experience in electrical maintenance or an equivalent.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must have a valid REAL ID State Driver’s License with no restrictions.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI Tier 1 Public Trust.
  • Must be able to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship, such as a birth certificate or a U.S. Passport.
  • Must be able to maintain driving privileges aboard the Fort Bragg Installation.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be proficient in servicing, troubleshooting and repairing electrical equipment.
  • Must be familiar with the use of electronic technical manuals.
  • Applicant must furnish their own serviceable, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliant, tools, that are appropriate for their required duties. Tools must meet the OSHA Regulations 1910 Subpar P
