Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
  
• Eligible for a Maryland Teaching Certificate that is age/grade appropriate with endorsement in special education
  

Preferred:

• Experience teaching students with diverse learning needs in a public school setting
  
• Experience with IEP development and case management
  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide for individual needs and interests of students through effective daily lesson planning
  
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning with effective use of instructional time
  
• Demonstrate the use of a variety of teaching techniques and instructional resources to implement approved curriculum
  
• Use evaluation effectively to promote student growth and development intellectually, physically, socially, and emotionally
  
• Demonstrate effective communication skills and positive interpersonal relationships with students, parents, staff, and community
  
• Guide the learning process toward school system goals following board policies and administrative procedures
  
• Supervise students in a variety of school settings
  
• Maintain appropriate records and monitor compliance with state and local requirements
  
• Communicate evaluation summaries in written and verbal form
  
• Elicit parent and staff participation in development of the IEP
  
• Participate in the IEP Team process
  
• Provide case management for special education students
