Job Title: Staff Accountant

Job Description

The Staff Accountant plays a key role in the accounting and finance team by managing balance sheet reconciliations, cash activities, fixed assets, and financial reporting. This position focuses on maintaining accurate general ledger records, supporting month-end close, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards while partnering closely with accounts payable and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations, with particular focus on liabilities and intercompany transactions.
  • Compile and prepare financial reports for month-end close, including bank, internal, and external reporting packages.
  • Prepare weekly financial and operational reporting for various internal stakeholders.
  • Manage daily cash clearing activities, including recording and reconciliation for all entities and accounts.
  • Own the fixed assets process, including recording new assets, performing reconciliations, calculating and posting depreciation, and maintaining accurate tracking records.
  • Reconcile accounts payable vendor accounts and collaborate with the accounts payable team to maintain clean and accurate vendor records.
  • Maintain, import, and reconcile credit card statements and employee expense reports.
  • Support general ledger activities, including journal entries related to month-end close and ongoing accounting operations.
  • Apply knowledge of financial statements and GAAP to ensure accurate and compliant reporting.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of accounting processes and controls within a manufacturing environment.
  • Perform other accounting duties and projects as assigned to support the broader accounting and finance team.

Essential Skills

  • Approximately 5 years of experience in accounting, with hands-on responsibility for general ledger and month-end close activities.
  • Strong knowledge of the balance sheet, including liabilities and intercompany transactions, and prior experience reconciling balance sheet accounts.
  • Demonstrated experience in month-end close processes and preparation of financial statements.
  • Proficiency in general ledger accounting, including journal entry preparation and review.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and its application to financial reporting.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in financial data and reconciliations.
  • Experience working in an accounting role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple reconciliations and reporting deadlines, including daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Four-year college or university degree in accounting is preferred.
  • Two to four years of related accounting experience and/or training may substitute or complement formal education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior experience with SAP or similar ERP systems is a plus.
  • Experience preparing bank, internal, and external financial reports.
  • Background in working with cross-functional teams, including accounts payable and cost accounting.
  • Ability to work effectively in a rapidly growing organization with evolving processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on process improvement.

Work Environment

This role is part of an established accounting and finance team of approximately 10 professionals within a larger organization of about 1,000 employees, with around 600 employees at the Frederick location. The position operates in a manufacturing environment and works closely with a cost accounting function that manages cost of goods sold. The Staff Accountant works 1st shift hours, typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and is 100% onsite, with potential for future hybrid flexibility depending on departmental needs. The organization is experiencing rapid growth, including expansion in Texas, offering opportunities for professional development and advancement. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $75000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
