Position Overview

The Logistics Specialist is responsible for supporting transportation execution across UniGroup’s agent network and brokerage operations by planning, coordinating, executing, and monitoring shipments from origin through delivery.

This role may support different areas of the transportation lifecycle including load planning and capacity optimization, transportation execution and carrier sourcing, or shipment visibility and track-and-trace activities. Responsibilities may include building loads, securing capacity, dispatching shipments, monitoring shipment status, resolving service issues, and coordinating across agents, carriers, van operators, vendors, and customers to ensure efficient and reliable transportation solutions.

Success in this role requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to manage multiple moving parts to deliver reliable service and profitability in a fast-paced logistics environment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Plan and approve orders to maximize available capacity, including building multi-stop truckloads that align timing, geography, and customer needs
  • Coordinate load tendering, shipment execution, and day-to-day operational communication to support timely and accurate delivery
  • Track shipments from origin to destination, proactively identifying issues and driving solutions to maintain service levels
  • Communicate regularly with agents, van operators, carriers, vendors, and customers via phone and email to coordinate logistics and resolve challenges
  • Source, secure, and assign transportation capacity across carrier networks and brokerage partners to support service and profitability objectives
  • Coordinate transportation execution activities including dispatching, carrier assignment, load coverage, order updates, shipment scheduling, and service execution
  • Monitor shipment activity after dispatch, including pickup confirmations, shipment visibility, status tracking, and exception management
  • Proactively identify service disruptions, delays, capacity constraints, and operational issues and partner cross-functionally to drive resolution
  • Monitor shipment-level, carrier, and agent performance to support profitability and equipment utilization
  • Negotiate pricing and payment terms with carriers and members to support margin and service objectives
  • Support transportation activities across truckload (TL), partial truckload (PTL), less-than-truckload (LTL), and specialized freight movements, including commercial freight and specialty shipments
  • Respond to quote requests, support re-quotes and pricing updates, and assist with service execution activities for customers and partners
  • Utilize transportation systems, carrier portals, load boards, and operational tools to support transportation planning and execution activities
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, departmental procedures, and transportation regulations, including FMCSA and DOT requirements
  • Manage documentation processes including reporting, service paperwork, operational tracking, and related logistics documentation
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to resolve complex issues using sound judgment and decision-making
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, processes, communication, and service outcomes
  • Handle escalations and support team priorities as needed

What We’re Looking For:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • 2–3 years of experience in transportation, logistics, brokerage operations, or a related field
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to “put the pieces together” in complex operational scenarios
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to build relationships across internal and external partners
  • High attention to detail, organization, and sense of urgency

Nice to Have

  • Experience with load planning, dispatching, brokerage operations, carrier management, track-and-trace, or transportation execution activities
  • Experience supporting TL, PTL, LTL, or specialized freight operations
  • Familiarity with carrier sourcing, shipment visibility processes, load boards, carrier portals, or transportation management systems (TMS)
  • Exposure to transportation regulations and operational compliance requirements

Benefits & Work Environment

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Generous paid time off, holidays, and personal leave
  • Life insurance, disability coverage, and employee assistance programs
  • Professional development and growth opportunities
  • Collaborative, team-oriented culture within a respected leader in the moving and logistics industry

This role follows a standard Monday through Friday schedule (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) and is primarily onsite.
