Job Summary

Traffic Safety Supplies is seeking a motivated, customer-focused, and hands-on Operations Manager to lead the daily operations of our Fishersville Branch. This role is responsible for driving branch sales growth while overseeing branch operations, inventory management, fleet and equipment readiness, facility maintenance, and workplace safety. The Operations Manager serves as a key point of contact for customers and is expected to build strong relationships, identify new business opportunities, and provide operational support both inside the branch and in the field.

The ideal candidate is sales-minded, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working directly with contractors, municipalities, and construction professionals. This position requires someone who can successfully balance business development with operational leadership while maintaining a high level of customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Sales & Business Development
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with contractors, municipalities, utilities, VDOT-related customers, and other construction industry partners.
  • Regularly visit customer offices, active construction projects, and jobsites to strengthen relationships and identify new business opportunities.
  • Follow up on customer quotes, leads, upcoming projects, and sales opportunities.
  • Assist customers with product selection, applications, equipment recommendations, and technical solutions.
  • Promote Traffic Safety Supplies' products, rentals, and services while identifying opportunities to expand market share.
  • Monitor local construction activity, bid opportunities, and competitor activity.
  • Participate in customer meetings, product demonstrations, and industry events.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Operations and sales team to support revenue growth and customer retention.
  1. Field Operations & Equipment Support
  • Visit customer jobsites to provide support for traffic control products and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) equipment.
  • Assist customers with equipment setup, programming, troubleshooting, and basic diagnostics.
  • Coordinate equipment repairs or replacements when necessary.
  • Ensure rental equipment is inspected, maintained, and ready for customer use.
  • Provide customers with basic equipment operation and product training.
  • Identify recurring equipment concerns and communicate improvement opportunities to management and vendors.
  • Utilize field visits to strengthen customer relationships and identify additional sales opportunities.
  1. Inventory & Warehouse Operations
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels and ensure inventory is organized and readily available.
  • Monitor stock levels based on customer demand and upcoming projects.
  • Coordinate receiving, transfers, cycle counts, inventory adjustments, and discrepancy investigations.
  • Identify obsolete, damaged, slow-moving, and excess inventory.
  • Maintain an organized warehouse and yard to support efficient operations.
  • Work closely with Purchasing to improve inventory accuracy and availability.
  1. Fleet & Equipment Management
  • Oversee the maintenance and readiness of branch vehicles, trailers, forklifts, and operational equipment.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, registrations, and required documentation.
  • Maintain maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor repair costs and identify opportunities to improve equipment utilization.
  • Maintain accurate fleet and equipment records.
  1. Facilities Management
  • Ensure the branch maintains a clean, organized, safe, and professional appearance.
  • Coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance for the warehouse, office, yard, gates, lighting, HVAC, and security systems.
  • Manage vendor relationships for facility maintenance and improvements.
  • Support projects that improve operational efficiency and customer experience.
  1. Safety & Compliance
  • Promote a culture of safety throughout the branch.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies and safe work practices.
  • Conduct routine inspections of the warehouse, yard, vehicles, trailers, and equipment.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and ensure timely corrective action.
  • Assist with safety meetings, employee training, incident reporting, and corrective actions.
  • Lead by example by maintaining safe work practices both inside the branch and at customer jobsites.
  1. Operational Leadership
  • Take ownership of operational challenges and work collaboratively across departments to resolve issues.
  • Coordinate daily with Inside Sales, Warehouse Associates, Drivers, Purchasing, customers, vendors, and other branch locations.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve customer service, operational efficiency, inventory accuracy, fleet readiness, and overall branch performance

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in operations, branch management, construction supply, traffic safety, equipment rental, industrial distribution, outside sales, or a related industry preferred.
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience supporting contractors, municipalities, or construction professionals preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot equipment and operational issues.
  • Working knowledge of inventory management and warehouse operations.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working both in an office environment and outdoors at active construction sites.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with NetSuite or similar ERP systems is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel locally to customer locations and jobsites

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to occasionally lift and carry office materials or product samples weighing up to 50 lbs.
