Description

About Us

At Flagstaff Bone & Joint, we are more than an orthopaedic practice. We are a physician-led, independent team committed to helping patients move better, feel better, and get back to the lives they enjoy. Serving Northern Arizona since 1978, we have built a reputation for clinical excellence, specialized care, and a collaborative culture that puts patients first.

We are seeking a motivated, team-oriented Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join our practice in a unique full-time role supporting two orthopaedic specialists:

  • Dr. Smith, an upper extremity surgeon who treats conditions from the elbow to the fingertips
  • Dr. Gorman, a foot and ankle specialist

This is an excellent opportunity for a PA who enjoys a clinic-focused orthopaedic role, values variety, and wants to work closely with experienced physicians in a highly respected private practice.

About the Role

This full-time position will be split between Dr. Smith and Dr. Gorman. The PA will help manage patient care across the continuum, including:

  • New patient evaluations
  • Follow-up visits
  • Pre-operative visits
  • Post-operative care

Because most of Dr. Smith’s procedures do not require a surgical assist, this portion of the role will be focused on direct patient care in the clinic rather than first assisting in the OR. With Dr. Gorman, the PA will also provide a mix of clinic-based orthopaedic care, with the opportunity to assist in surgery approximately 1–2 days per month, depending on surgical volume and need. The remainder of the time will be spent in clinic caring for patients and helping manage ongoing treatment plans.

What You’ll Do

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat orthopaedic patients in collaboration with Dr. Smith and Dr. Gorman
  • See new and established patients in clinic
  • Manage follow-up care, including pre-op and post-op visits
  • Educate patients on diagnoses, treatment plans, recovery expectations, and next steps
  • Order and review appropriate imaging, tests, and other clinical information
  • Document visits thoroughly and efficiently
  • Help coordinate care and maintain a smooth, high-quality patient experience
  • Assist Dr. Gorman in the OR on a limited basis as needed

What Makes This Role Unique

  • Two specialties in one role: upper extremity and foot/ankle exposure
  • Strong clinic involvement: meaningful patient care responsibilities and continuity
  • Collaborative physician mentorship: work closely with two respected specialists
  • Balanced scope: largely clinic-based with limited surgical assisting
  • Independent practice environment: nimble, team-oriented, and patient-focused

What We’re Looking For

  • A PA who enjoys orthopaedics and values building relationships with patients
  • Someone who is comfortable in a fast-paced clinic environment and can balance multiple priorities
  • A strong communicator who works well with physicians, staff, and patients
  • A clinician who is organized, dependable, and committed to excellent care
  • An individual who is adaptable and excited by the opportunity to support two complementary specialties

Requirements

  •  Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Current BLS certification
  • Orthopaedic experience is preferred, but we are open to the right candidate with strong clinical skills and interest in musculoskeletal care
  • Surgical first assist experience is helpful, but not required
