Position Summary:
The Assembly & Maintenance Technician supports manufacturing operations by assembling new dispersion equipment and machinery used in production processes. This role is responsible for building, fitting, and verifying equipment components according to engineering drawings and specifications to ensure reliable performance and operational readiness.
In addition to equipment assembly, the technician provides maintenance support as needed by assisting with preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities to help maintain safe and efficient production operations. This role provides the opportunity to apply hands-on mechanical knowledge and problem-solving skills to build, troubleshoot, and improve equipment that supports production performance. The technician works closely with production, engineering, and operations leadership to support equipment reliability and continuous improvement in the manufacturing environment.
Essential Role Responsibilities & Functions:
- Assemble machinery and equipment by installing manufactured or commercial parts, components, and subassemblies according to specifications and engineering drawings.
- Prepare assembly work by reviewing machine specifications, assembly drawings, and bills of material (BOM) associated with work orders.
- Gather and organize required parts, tools, materials, and subassemblies necessary to complete equipment assembly.
- Position and assemble components by verifying measurements, confirming proper fit, and fastening parts together according to design requirements.
- Inspect assembled equipment and components to confirm alignment, proper installation, and compliance with specifications.
- Complete required assembly documentation including specification sheets, inspection forms, and work order records to verify equipment quality and accuracy.
- Communicate any concerns, discrepancies, or changes related to work orders with supervisors or project engineers to ensure proper documentation and resolution.
- Troubleshoot assembly challenges by modifying components as appropriate or collaborating with engineering or supervision to meet equipment specifications.
- Verify correct parts and components through inspection and measurement prior to final equipment assembly.
- Prepare completed machinery for shipment by constructing skids or crates and properly securing equipment.
- Assist with delivery or pickup of equipment, components, or materials as operational needs require.
- Travel occasionally to customer locations to support equipment start-up, installation, troubleshooting, or service as required.
- Support preventative maintenance activities on production equipment including blending, pumping, milling, packing, and related support systems.
- Assist in diagnosing mechanical issues and performing equipment repairs to maintain operational performance and minimize production downtime.
- Accurately record preventative maintenance activities and completed work orders as required.
- Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment when required to support assembly and maintenance work.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company safety, quality, and environmental standards.
- Follow all company safety policies, operating procedures, and required personal protective equipment guidelines.
- Participate in training opportunities related to equipment assembly, maintenance practices, and safety procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support manufacturing and operational needs.
Education & Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- 1-3 years of experience in mechanical assembly, equipment assembly, industrial maintenance or manufacturing operations required.
- Additional experience working with industrial machinery, preventative maintenance, or equipment troubleshooting preferred
- Experience reading assembly drawings, blueprints or technical documentation preferred
- Electrical and electrical troubleshooting experience is a plus
Required Capabilities (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to assemble, adjust, and verify industrial equipment and machinery components.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, assembly drawings, equipment manuals, and bills of material.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and determine appropriate repair or adjustment methods to restore equipment functionality.
- Ability to troubleshoot assembly challenges and mechanical issues using sound judgment and technical reasoning.
- Ability to safely operate tools and equipment commonly used in mechanical assembly and maintenance work.
- Strong attention to detail when fitting components, verifying measurements, and ensuring equipment accuracy.
- Basic mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division for measurements and equipment setup.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and production teams.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple work orders in a manufacturing environment.
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to safety and environmental standards.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team supporting production operations.
- Must have valid drivers license to accommodate travel needs for the role.
- Less than >10 % travel. Mostly local travel.
Systems & Tools (Certifications, Licenses, Software Programs)
- Mechanical hand tools and equipment used for assembly and maintenance
- Forklift and material handling equipment
- Preventative maintenance tracking or work order systems
- Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Teams, Excel) for documentation and communication
- Ability to learn and use ERP or production management systems used to track equipment and work orders
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to talk and hear.
- The associate frequently stands, walks, and may climb stairs or ladders while performing assembly or maintenance tasks.
- The associate occasionally sits and regularly uses hands to handle tools, equipment components, or materials.
- The associate must frequently lift and move materials or equipment weighing up to 55 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, including the ability to read Safety Data Sheets and equipment instructions.
- The associate may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, or chemical materials present in a manufacturing environment.
- The role requires sufficient mental and physical dexterity to operate equipment and tools and the ability to obtain respirator clearance if required.
- The noise level in the work environment is often loud.
