MPE Services is proud to be the local leading provider of heating & air conditioning, electrical, and plumbing services. We provide a wide variety of services to local residential and commercial clients in the North Alabama area as well as Southern Tennessee.

We are looking to hire a detail-oriented Lead HVAC technician to install, maintain and repair HVAC systems. The Lead HVAC technician will be skilled in diagnosing, adjusting, and repairing systems. You will guide and advise the customer to select the most appropriate course of action to fulfill their requirements. You will be responsible for HVAC systems from installation to end-of-life by performing maintenance, warranty, and emergency repairs.

To be successful in this role, customer satisfaction, safety, and quality should be your top priority. Ideal candidates will be patient and have excellent organizational and troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Complex troubleshooting: Diagnose electrical, mechanical, airflow, and control issues.
  • Service rooftop units, package units, split systems, heat pumps, and furnaces as needed.
  • Component Repairs: Replace compressors, reversing valves, control boards, VFDs, etc. as needed.
  • Customer Advisory: Explain system issues clearly to customers, presenting ethical options and building trust.
  • Field Leadership: Mentor, guide, and train junior technicians and apprentices on best field practices.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all field repairs and installations meet code requirements, safety regulations, and overall safety high quality standards.
  • Documentation: Use mobile devices to log accurate service records, job nots, and invoicing in Service Titan software.
  • Visit frustrated or high-stakes clients to resolve persistent, ongoing system issues, and enforce company trust.
  • Provide precise labor and material estimates for repairs, upgrades, and installations.
  • Maintain a highly organized, fully stocked service truck with adequate inventory to efficiently meet customer needs.
  • Conduct field ride-along with junior technicians or new hires to improve diagnostic accuracy and customer service abilities.
  • Measure and log critical data (static pressure, temperature splits, amp draws, etc.) directly into job notes and customer profiles.
  • Communicate with management, dispatchers, and other team members as necessary to ensure consistent and productive workflow.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergencies and after-hours situations promptly and professionally.
  • Ensuring compliance with professional standards and with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent.
  • 5+ year experience as an HVAC technician, and willingness to continue education in HVAC field.
  • Valid EPA certification required.  NATE certification is a major plus.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean, insurable driving history.
  • Leadership mindset with a passion for passing down knowledge to junior technicians and apprentices.
  • Exceptional communication skills and a deep respect for customers and their property.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work after hours, over weekends and on public holidays with short or no notice.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.

Job Type: Full-time

Compensation: $32-$35/hour plus overtime and incentive opportunity
