Job Description:Β The mine technician advises the mine controller and builder on operational changes that should be made to optimize the autonomous operations as well as the individual truck operations within the mine. The pit technician also executes manual interventions to solve various system issues that arise on autonomous trucks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and direct operations team members to ensure safe and productive operations.
  • Perform regular surveys and validation activities of the Autonomous Operating Zone (AOZ).
  • Conduct pit inspections and area surveys.
  • Engage in field interactions and incident investigations, creating safe zones for others to work.
  • Ensure all Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) activities comply with regulations and mine guidelines.
  • Identify truck behaviors that require maintenance or optimization and inform the appropriate personnel.
  • Interact with the AHS system as needed for manual interventions.
  • Troubleshoot autonomous equipment, run recovery scripts, and manually reset equipment as required.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and used in accordance with company health and safety standards.
  • Optimize system configuration for Autonomous Mine Truck performance.
  • Responsible for truck recovery and intervention.
  • Investigate any occurrences that cause AMTs to stop.
  • Accurately complete documentation and data entry as necessary.
  • Monitor field operations and truck performance to ensure key performance indicators are met.
  • Identify faults and troubleshoot equipment as required.
  • Ensure the truck is available in the correct mode as required.
  • Commit to continuous learning and improvement.
  • Continuously seek to enhance your team's skill set.
  • Watch for inefficiencies or problems and share them with others.
  • Work collaboratively to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Consider risk across five dimensions: throughput, time, quality, sustainability, and cost.
  • Coordinate with other team members on-site to meet shift deliverables.
  • Mentor and train new team members.
  • Participate in and contribute expertise to the team.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively using the provided tools.
  • Ensure equipment logs and shift logs are accurate and complete.
  • Communicate any deficiencies to the appropriate team members for follow-up.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to fulfill commitments to the team, communities, environment, and shareholders.
Qualifications

Job Requirements:

Health and Safety Responsibilities:

  • Set the workplace health and safety culture within control operations.
  • Comply and adhere with all company policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Report autonomous related incidents as soon as practicable.
  • Participate in safety enquiries, safety meetings, and site safety programs as and when required.
  • Participate in workplace inspections as required.

Operations Management:

  • Responsible for daily pit inspections and area surveys.
  • Responsible for validation of any mine model changes required.
  • Responsible for ensuring system configuration is optimal for AMT performance.
  • Responsible for truck recovery and intervention.
  • Responsible for investigating any occurrences that cause AMT to stop.
  • Accurate completion of documentation and data entry where necessary.
  • Monitor field operations and truck performance to ensure key performance indicators are met.
  • Responsible for ensuring the truck is available in the correct mode as required.

Training and Assistance:

  • Undertake training as required to gain new skills.
  • Provide training and coaching where required to other personnel.

Performance Management:

  • Prioritize work to meet shift objectives.
  • Follow specific operating procedures.
  • Complete and validate shift reports, shift handover, and document all issues requiring follow-up.

Communication and Liaison:

  • Prompt communication with affected parties when plans or decisions are modified.
  • Ensure communication with peers, supervision, and other employees contribute to safe and harmonious working relationships.
  • Follow direction of supervisor in emergency response situations.
  • Attend daily pre-start meetings.
  • Communicate with team members and contractors to ensure all necessary information is provided.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • College diplomas or university degrees in a related field such as mine engineering, robotics, or autonomous systems are considered an asset.
  • 2 or more years of experience in an open pit mining environment or autonomous operations environment.
  • Approachable, customer focused, and able to influence others – get work done through others and able to effectively manage up.
  • Knowledge of autonomous truck behavior in the field
  • Organizational and priority setting – able to make complex decisions and prioritize outcome.
  • Experience working with fleet management systems such asΒ 
    MineStar, Modular or similar systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure.

Preferred:

  • Advanced computer literacy.
  • Engineering experience.
  • Conflict management – able to deal with difficult people or situations.
  • Influencing others – get work done through others and able to effectively manage up.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Sound knowledge of open pit mining fundamentals and autonomous mining operations.
  • Previous exposure to Autonomous Mining Systems is highly desirable, but not essential.

Working Conditions:

  • This role operates on a shift-based schedule, requiring coordination during both day and night shifts.
