Job Summary

St. Ferdinand Catholic Church is seeking a faith-filled and dedicated PSR Teacher to provide religious education and faith formation for children enrolled in the Parish School of Religion program. The PSR Teacher is responsible for creating a positive learning environment, teaching Catholic doctrine and traditions, preparing students for sacramental formation as applicable, and fostering students' spiritual growth in support of the mission of the Catholic Church.

Job Description

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan and teach age-appropriate religion lessons using the approved PSR curriculum.
  • Foster students' understanding of Catholic teachings, traditions, prayers, and values.
  • Create a welcoming, engaging, and faith-centered classroom environment.
  • Lead students in prayer and encourage participation in the sacramental life of the Church.
  • Prepare students for sacramental programs as assigned.
  • Maintain classroom order and promote respectful behavior consistent with Christian values.
  • Track attendance and maintain required classroom records.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, students, clergy, and parish staff regarding program activities and student progress.
  • Participate in catechist meetings, training sessions, and faith formation opportunities as required.
  • Assist with parish religious education events, prayer services, retreats, and special programs.
  • Support and uphold the mission, values, and teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Maintain compliance with Archdiocesan Safe Environment and child protection requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Religious Education or Pastor.

Job Qualifications

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing who supports the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • High school diploma required; college coursework in education, theology, religious studies, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous teaching, catechetical, ministry, or youth formation experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Catholic doctrine, traditions, and practices.
  • Ability to engage students and communicate effectively with families and parish staff.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
  • Dependable, professional, and committed to faith formation.
  • Successful completion of background screening, Safe Environment training, and Archdiocesan compliance requirements.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of Catholic teachings, sacraments, and traditions.
  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to foster student engagement and spiritual growth.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, parish staff, volunteers, and families.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and ministry of the Catholic Church.
