SUMMARY OF JOB:
The Homemaker has responsibilities in the following areas food service and providing and coordinating activities. Responsible for housekeeping duties in the common areas of the Household. Â In collaboration with Dining Services, the Homemaker will prepare and serve food for household meals and snacks that are healthy and appetizing and served in a timely manner, maintaining high quality standards and portion control. Â The Homemaker will maintain assigned areas in a clean, sanitary, safe, orderly and attractive manner in accordance with established procedures and as guided by the Household Coordinator. Â The Homemaker participates in all activities for the residents for socialization and enhance experience while living in the community. Â Homemakers will assist the House Hold Coordinator and the Life Enrichment Leader to develop activities and event planning. Â The Homemaker works cooperatively with residents, coworkers, families, visitors and volunteers to create a positive and pleasant environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate with Dining Services to prepare and serve appropriate snacks and meals.
- Follow menus and recipes correctly, making any necessary or requested substitutions appropriately.
- Understand liberalized therapeutic diets (using “real food first”), and special food requirements and finds ways to make such modifications palatable and enjoyable.
- Regularly elicit residents’ preferences in choice of foods, menus, recipes and presentation.
- Maintain a warm, pleasant atmosphere for the residents.
- Facilitate kitchen-related activities for residents; ensures necessary supplies, equipment and utensils are available; organizes any necessary cleanup activities.
- Maintain clean spaces in assigned areas of responsibility.
- Learns residents’ likes and dislikes for programs and activities.
- Assists Household Coordinator and Life Enrichment Leader to develop activity calendar based on residents’ preferences.
- Assist with encouraging residents to participate in community programs.
- May provide one on one social visit if needed by the residents
- Comply with all regulatory sanitation requirements pertinent to the physical environment and maintain the kitchen in accordance with those regulatory standards, which includes
- Documentation of Food temperatures, Refrigeration (all) temperatures, dishwasher temperatures daily for each meal servedÂ
- Timely reporting of kitchen/equipment repairs via Workhub data system
- Assist with laundry duties of the household as assigned.Â
- Complete annual compliance (RELIAS) and HIPAA training and exhibits behavior as set forth by the Code of Compliance in the performance of their duties.
- Adhere to the Organization’s Policies and Procedures regarding the Corporate Compliance Program of the organization and is timely in reporting any possible concerns.
- Follow all local, state and federal regulations as they pertain to their position.
- Adhere to the Organization’s Policies and Procedures covering Privacy and Security in the Compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Attend monthly in-services as required.
- Perform other duties assigned as related to the essential functions of the position.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
- Serve Safe educated
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Experience in working in the field of long term care with the aging population preferred.
- Understand needs of an aging population
- Commitment to person-directed principles and values
- Commitment to supporting a resident’s independence, autonomy, and honoring their decision-making capability within the constraints of their cognitive and/or physical decline
- Flexibility to adapt to a changing environment
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Heavy to moderate physical effort
- Lift/carry up to 50 lbs.

- Frequent kneeling/stooping/crouching/reaching/bending
- Frequently moves/lifts supplies or equipment
- Frequently transfers and re-positions residents
- Ability to communicate verbally
- Reading/seeing/writing requires far and near visual acuity, field vision, and color vision to read written communications
- Must be able to write legibly
- Eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity to perform the duties of Homemaker
