Overview

Bowhead is seeking an Engineering Technician to support the Army Research Lab (ARL) on Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG).

 

Performs standardized or prescribed assignments involving a sequence of related operations.  Follows standard work methods on recurring assignments but receives explicit instructions on unfamiliar assignments; technical adequacy of routine work is reviewed on completion; non-routine work may also be reviewed in progress. Become certified Ammo Handler.

Responsibilities

Performs at this level one or a combination of such typical duties as:

  • Follows specific instructions, test plans.
  • Conducts a variety of tests using established methods. Prepares test specimens, adjusts and operates equipment, and records test data, pointing out deviations resulting from equipment malfunction or observational errors.
  • Performs mechanical design of prototype fixtures, instruments, machinery.
  • Checks drawings provided by engineers and scientists to determine the adequacy of the drawings for target construction and successful completion of the associated test.
  • Performs non-routine and complex assignments involving the reduction of instrumentation data that documents the results of ballistic experiments.
  • Troubleshoots and corrects equipment malfunctions.
  • Passes all required training deemed necessary by the facility manager and be familiar with all sites and SOPs for every site at the facility.
  • Maintenance/upkeep (sweeping, general organization and housekeeping) of facility; modify facility as required for specific projects.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometer and gages. Good understanding of tolerances.
  • CAD experience.
  • Experience working with weapons and ammunition.
  • Experience using lathes, drill presses, and milling machines for fabrication and modification of testing components.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Comfortable with computers and a good understanding of Excel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time.
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Secret level.  US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
