The Refrigeration Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration systems and related equipment in a poultry processing plant. This role ensures that the refrigeration systems function efficiently and safely to maintain optimal temperatures for food safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance and Repair:
    • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and other related equipment.
    • Diagnose malfunctions in refrigeration systems and repair or replace defective parts, such as motors, switches, and electrical wiring.
    • Maintain ammonia-based refrigeration systems, ensuring they operate within safe and legal parameters.
  • System Monitoring:
    • Monitor and log the performance of refrigeration systems to ensure proper operation.
    • Adjust controls to regulate temperature and humidity levels according to the specifications required for poultry processing and storage.
    • Troubleshooting:
      • Respond to emergency breakdowns or alarms, providing timely troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
      • Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to resolve issues quickly and efficiently.
    • Documentation:
      • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work, including parts used and time spent.
      • Document and report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to management.
Qualifications

Must be able tp work Third Shift.

  • Education: High school diploma or GED. Technical certification in HVAC/R or related field preferred.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in industrial refrigeration, preferably in a food processing environment.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
    • Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles and components.
    • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
    • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
    • Basic computer skills for record-keeping and documentation.
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Ammonia refrigeration certification (preferred).

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work in cold environments, often below freezing temperatures.
  • Ability to work on-call and respond to emergencies as needed, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 40 pounds, standing for extended periods, and performing tasks that require climbing, bending, and reaching.
