Position Purpose

The Assistant Deli Manager supports the Deli Manager in directing daily department operations to achieve sales, profitability, food safety, quality, and customer service objectives. This position assists in supervising deli associates, maintaining merchandising standards, overseeing food production, controlling inventory, and ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation requirements.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations
  • Assist in managing daily deli production and service operations.
  • Ensure all prepared foods, hot cases, cold cases, and grab-and-go items are properly stocked, displayed, and merchandised.
  • Monitor product quality, freshness, and presentation standards.
  • Support execution of promotional programs, seasonal displays, and merchandising initiatives.
  • Assist with ordering, inventory management, product rotation, and shrink control.
  • Ensure department equipment is maintained and operating properly.
Customer Service
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and promote a positive guest experience.
  • Respond to customer inquiries, product requests, and special orders professionally and promptly.
  • Resolve customer concerns and service issues in a timely manner.
  • Foster a customer-focused culture throughout the department.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Assist with recruiting, training, coaching, and developing deli associates.
  • Provide daily work direction and support to team members.
  • Help maintain appropriate staffing levels and assist with scheduling.
  • Monitor productivity and adherence to department standards.
  • Assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Deli Manager.
Food Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, health, and safety regulations.
  • Monitor proper food preparation, handling, labeling, storage, and temperature control procedures.
  • Conduct routine department inspections to ensure cleanliness and regulatory compliance.
  • Support company safety programs and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Ensure associates follow all company policies and operating procedures.
Financial Performance
  • Assist in achieving department sales, labor, and shrink goals.
  • Monitor inventory levels and help manage ordering to minimize waste.
  • Support labor planning and efficient utilization of department resources.
  • Analyze department performance and recommend operational improvements.
  • Help drive profitability through effective merchandising and production planning.
